Thanks for the input dude but I was wondering about wiring and hook-up and stuff. I have a mounting kit.

Re: How to install Autometer mechanical gauges?

Speedo, tach, fuel, water temp, oil press and volt

Well i dont know for sure but just from my best knowledge. Also when i say connect to power make sure its NOT constant power. Make sure its only when you turn your ignition to start. If you run your wires through the radio pod it should be either the Red or orange wire on your harness.

im pretty sure your speedo gauge splices from power, then you have to splice into your speedo sensor on the motor, then run to a ground.

Fuel gauge you have to cut into your sending unit wire. THen also to power and ground.

Water temp you run to power and ground.then it gives you this little sensor you run into your radiator.

Volts just run either to the battery or through your radio pod to one of the positive sources. ALso to ground.

here is a site for the Oil pressure http://www.grandprix.net/upgrades/oilgauge.html

Here is one for the Tach http://www.egauges.com/ATM_Tips.asp?...green_wire.htm

You can also do a search on here or on google.Try just How to hook up aftermarket gauges or how to install autometer gauges Painlessly

Also you have to make your own gauge pod pretty much. You can do it out of the old one. Essentially by cutting off the front plastic and creating your own out of any material you want. I suggest looking at Project P.I.T.A's cluster. It's a different year but he did a damn good job on it.

Re: How to install Autometer mechanical gauges?

They all come with instructions, what's the question? Haynes manual will show the factory wiring hookups for the stock gauge cluster just tap into them.

Re: How to install Autometer mechanical gauges?

Okay cool thanks. I do have a gauge bezel setup. The last thing I'm having trouble with is finding a tach signal. I have a 6AL ignition. I know it would not work with the negative on the Blaster coil.

Re: How to install Autometer mechanical gauges?

See my problem was/is that I had ordered a full set from (I forget the company off the top of my head) and they had given a mix of electric and mechanical gauges. I have found thus far how to install the fuel, volt and mechanical water temp. So breaking down what's left that I need would be:
How to install the mechanical oil pressure they gave me
Where to get a tach signal from
The mechanical speedo has a threaded male connection on the back. My speed cable in the car has a push-on type female connector without threads. I cannot find what I would need to make that work.
Thank you again!

Re: How to install Autometer mechanical gauges?

The reason I was so vague prior was because I had not known that the company had given me the mix of electrical and mechanical gauges which at the time had confused the hell out of me because the company that had sold them to me had convinced me that they were plug and play. Being new to it I just had gauges on my hands and the question "how the hell do I make these work?"

Re: How to install Autometer mechanical gauges?

you should not run mechanical water or oil gauges if you plan to mount them in the cabin of the car. if you happen to blow a line or the gauge breaks.. 200* oil and water shooting at you..

for these 2 gauges, run Electric.. same goes for fuel pressure gauge.

Re: How to install Autometer mechanical gauges?

For the oil pressure ive ran them inside the car but it probley came with a plastic line. Do not use it! I have had one break only because i routed it over the steering column but the copper line is like 10 bicks from advance auto. The way i hooked mine up when i had my dodge was i went to lowes and got some small brass fittings and made a "T" so i could keep my stock oil pressure gaige and the new one. I think the tbi cars need stock oil pressure sender for the ecm for some reason, not sure if your car does or not. When i did my autometer tach i used my stock tachs feed wire, i believe it was white iirc.

Re: How to install Autometer mechanical gauges?

ok... a metal copper line.. but what happens if the gauge itself fails? hot liquid all over you.. i wouldnt do it..

the cost difference between the mechanical oil and electric oil is like $15.. so is the water. for $30.. thats cheap piece of mind that my face wont be anywhere near hot oil and water.

Re: How to install Autometer mechanical gauges?

your msd has a tach output marked, it takes a spade connector. A google search will get you instructions for any of these gauges or use summitracing.com

All products on that site have PDF files of instructions

Re: How to install Autometer mechanical gauges?

Also I know that I can get the PDF files forvthe autometer install but I'm looking for where to hook them to. Like for example yes hook up the teach signal is what autometer would say. I'm asking for help on where to find the tach signal for example. I just figured I could find an answer by asking.
