How do i fix my gauges. Tach and gas gauge not working
How do i fix my gauges. Tach and gas gauge not working
How do i fix my gauges on 90 rs. Also i dont know if all my other gauges are even functioning properly. The tach is pegged all the way past 6000rpms and the gas gauge is pegged past full. What should i do? i got a parts car. should i swap gauges. How tough/time consuming would that be? Thanks for the help

If you've got another cluster just like that one, you can have the whole thing swapped out in less than an hour easy. Taking the cluster apart would take a little longer. First make sure the cluster is seated properly and making good contact. May just need the contacts cleaned up ?
There's a thread in the electronics forum about tachs also

Nope, and you can do almost all of it sitting in the drivers seat.
Disconnect battery
Remove hush panel under the steering wheel
take out screws on bottom of gauge bezel and pull out gently, it will pop out but you must unhook the clip from the back of the lighter and any other switches as well as removing the headlight **** with or without the shaft to get it free.
Remove the little screws holding in the cluster
Tilt the steering column down, remove tilt lever, and pull cluster out gently, tilting the top towards you and up over the wheel.
Reverse steps to install the new one
If you had to pull the light **** off, make sure you keep the little metal clip in the **** that holds it on, it may be still on the shaft. With needlenose, pull from the bottom bent part of the clip to get it off and rebend after inserted back in the **** so that it hold firmly on the shaft
Piece of cake!
Oops, almost forgot to tell you that after you remove hush panel, if you reach up and push the little spring loaded pin on the bottom of the light switch unit while pulling out the ****, the shaft will come out with it. When all finished, just stick it back in and it will click into place

A small tip that will make removing the cluster easier without removing your dash pad would be to loosen the steering coloum. There are two bolts that you need to remove from a bracket that supports the hush panel. Once removed, you will see two more bolts. You do not need to remove these two bolts completely but backing them off a little will lower the steering wheel and make it so much easier and stress free while removing.

Check the wiring from the sender to the dash. If it gets grounded out somewhere that can peg the gauge
