Replacing Carpet Padding/Jute

Can anyone provide information as to a good replacement for the padding under the carpets. I want something that can be picked up locally though. I have thought about standard household carpet underlayment, but can it hold up to the heat? I dont know if I can get foil backed padding locally or not though. Do I even need the padding?.... Any help will be great guys... links and pics would be even better.

Re: Replacing Carpet Padding/Jute

I've used standard water-resistant household carpet padding for years now, and my exhaust gets pretty close to the body in places. Heck, most of the padding I've seen in places like Home Depot is the same crap that's already down there in most cars I've seen. Yes, you might want the padding, as it also helps cut down on the outside noise and it keeps the heat in the car as opposed to letting the cold metal cool everything down.
