Stock shift light question

So can anyone give me the 101 on a stock shift light? If it is a manual transmission only thing? If it came stock on all models? What RPM it lights up at? If it's merda that never worked how it was supposed to anyways...? Any information would be helpful. There is an indicator and the light in my dash but I've sure never sen it come on. Figured if it ain't broke, don't fix it. But I don't know.

Re: Stock shift light question

It is a manual only thing.
It is programed in the prom for RPM's.
The clusters all had the provision but no bulb or wiring unless it was manual.

Re: Stock shift light question

The light trigger is not based just on RPMs. The computer also takes into account other parameters, not sure what they all are, but certainly engine load and vehicle speed also factor into deciding when the light comes on.

And it's not a drag racing shift light, it's advice for maximizing fuel economy.

Gottcha, thanks for the info. I'm not sure why my car has a bulb in the spot, it's a factory L98..
