Overlays (not the usual)
well a buddy of mine makes custom overlays for 4th gens. I was talkin to him last night about possibly makin a couple for 3rd gens and he said he was goin to a while back but never got around to it. He told me to give him an idea of what i would want and hed make me one to try out and see if any of you guys might want to buy them.
anyways I didnt want anything too crazy just wanted black with white letters/marks and then ill paint my needles red.
sorta like this but in the 3rd gen gauges:
or maybe these with the emblems:
i dont think hes a sponsor on here so i dont think i can post his site to see the rest of the designs.

The purpose of that rule is so that people aren't undercutting a vendor. But in order to do that, they must be selling a competing product which having a gander through the "vendors" portion of the site, I don't think any of them do.

Your mock up is for the newer 90-92 dash. I would be really interested in ones for the pre 90 dash. Is this something he may be willing to do?

Re: Overlays (not the usual)
Last I heard you had to power the cluster on so everything went to its default value and put the needles back on inthe default value to calibrate them.
I'm sure someone will have a more detailed answer, I've never had to do it.

Re: Overlays (not the usual)
so pull the needles off and turn the key on so everything reads 0 and put them back on? that makes sense but my RPM does not move at all. thanks for the help though. any help would be awesome.

Re: Overlays (not the usual)
i usually take a pic of the gauges before i pull the needles. i do it when the car is cold and nothing is on and have never had any issues with readings. ive maybe done about 5-6 sets like this.

Re: Overlays (not the usual)
Id like to see someone make the early gauge overlays with transluscent numbers. So the gauges can be back lit.
I alreay have a good concept of how to "convert" the gauge faces.Just trying to find a place to make the overlays.
What are the chances he can/will make someting like that?

Re: Overlays (not the usual)
well thats pretty much how theyre goin to be. the numbers and little lines are goin to be clear. he can do everything clear even the red part, then you can put your own color of film.
can someone take a nice clear pic of an earlier style gauge cluster? one without the lens and bezel would be better.
something like what i did to this cluster.

uh oh I did not denote my spot either when I pulled the needles off. I hope I wont have this problem. I have an 89 cluster tho so I do not know if that will change anything.

Re: Overlays (not the usual)
well fill the gas tank and put the needle like 1/4 tank above full (since they sit there when full) if the cars cold put the temp at zero, tach at zero, oil pressure at zero, and speedo depending on year i think but you can probably just put it at zero too.

That would be awesome! I have a 92 and can't stand the yellow, I'd love to go blue. But don't really care for the white overlays everyone makes! Keep us posted on the progress!

Re: Overlays (not the usual)
Just get the right LEDs and replace with current lights and voila blue gauges. Its seriously that easy no other modifications other that the bulbs. And they are much brighter in person. If ya wanna know what bulb check the message boards any one they suggest will come out similar.

Wow! Just changed the bulbs huh? I thought about that, but figured the blue bulbs behind the yellow would look green at night. I'll definately give that a shot! Thanks!

Re: Overlays (not the usual)
ok guys some good news. looks like he will be makin some other colors and options. unfortunately for now its only for 90-92 cars. my buddy did just buy a 89 car and also bought a seperate 145mph speedo so maybe i can work with him and the guy making these to try to get the older gauges made too. still have no idea on pricing yet though.
and of course the regular black ones
oh and if your wondering where the holes for the odometer and stuff will be heres a pic. where all the blue lines are will be cut outs.

Too bad no one makes KM versions for everyone up here in Canada as I know there would be tons of business coming their way if they did. Is there anyway to get him to make a set??? Id kill for a set of these if he makes them for a older cluster for my 89

he would need a stock set of overlays and not sure how much hell charge. i know hes all over ls1tech and you can probably pm him on there and ask him. or go through http://6litereaterdesigns.com and create an account and ask there. youll see my thread on that site.

I posted an inquiry about sponsorship on here. I'll wait until we sort all that out to say anything but if it seems financially plausible then we will start sponsoring here and seeing what all we can make for you guys...
