finding door panels

im having a very hard time trying to find door panels for my 87 t/a. this car came with the deluxe door panels but all i can find is just normal ones. i was thinking of doing some custom work to the door panels in the fabric area of it but my biggest concern is the black sill trim on the top, that is shot and i think that the two ends pushing together from them breaking is what did in my old dash pad.

anyone have any tips on finding door panels, preferably used in the NJ area?

i looked in the parts for sale area and couldnt find much of anything. looking for gray interior

Re: finding door panels

Do you have a digi pic you can post of the door panel? I can see what we have over here for you.

I've checked with 1A auto before. They don't make replacements for the deluxe door panels which imo are the best looking 3rd gen door panels. What I did was buy some used black deluxe door panels off ebay which are in excellent condition and I'm having the shop replace the cloth insert on the door with grey suede which will look great when done.

Re: finding door panels

Props to the OP for calling them by their correct name, and not GTA door panels. Sorry, Pet Peeve of Mine. They were available on 85 (before GTA's)-89 Firebird's, any model.

The Black trim piece across the top is the same for all door panels, that shouldn't be an issue. But, yes the Deluxe Door Paels are fairly rare, and hard to find. I agree, they are a really nice looking door panel.

That's why whenever I run across a set at the junkyard or someone parting a car, I buy em cheap and get $$ for em.

I think the last complete set I sold (included Arm rest Mounting Brackets) went for $250.00

Tony, Here's a Pic:

The 6 Covers for the Screw Holes on the Arm Rests are also fairly Rare, as you can imagine they get lost over the years, I sold a set of 6 of those (the panels and armrests on the car I got them from were trashed) For $5x.xx I forget, it was a few years ago.

Re: finding door panels

i appreciate all the help guys. my door panels arent in that terrible of shape, i can just replace the cloth myself, but when i looked up the black trim on hawks it was so expensive that i couldnt believe my eyes.

i will try to salvage these ones, this black trim will be an issue though to find at a reasonable price. maybe there are some dead third gens in the junk yard near me that i can snag these off of.

Re: finding door panels

i'm just glad no one suggested replacing my 3rd gen doors with 4th lol IMO i think theyre ugly in our cars, i like to keep my 3rd gen as 3rd gen as possible lol, minus the 4th gen spoiler that i think just looks neat lol

That's funny because I think the only 4th gen item that looks good on our cars is interior stuff. Except for the 91-92 Birds I think any 4th gen hood or spoiler looks really stupid on a 3rd gen that is square/boxy not curved.

Re: finding door panels

lol i got mine from hawks so it was kinda already more of a third gen shape cuz its shaped a little more towards the rear of our cars.

im not a huge fan of the fourth interior. i put the seats from an 02 firebird in cuz they do look fantastic in our cars. plus my old seats were shot and these look nicer and are more comfortable. just need to get a leather kit for them cuz i dont want cloth anymore lol

Yes, In my Experience, That is the Norm for them, Between that and the horrible Customer service I received (you only get one chance to make a good 1st impression) I will never, ever, no matter what buy anything from them, Ever.

bought my 4th gen spoiler from them, it was the worst. got the box and it had a hole cut in the center that was put back together with staples. when i took the spoiler out it was all scratched up from the staples and had a couple holes in it. i already paid about 250 for shipping. so i wasnt about to send it back for another 250 so i just repaired it myself. i was really really unimpressed, not to mention everything is so costly. i was going to buy a set of diff gears from them but they were like 400 or something, i went onto summit and picked up a set of richmonds with an install kit for $310.

maybe i'll try to check junkyards for this trim, i didnt even happen to take notice that this was the same trim on every single door panel lol
