1990 car has an airbag - you sure you want a non-functioning peeling up air bag wheel in your car?

Good point...I think anything is an upgrade over the standard 86 steering wheel, airbag or not. That being said, there will be a yellow plastic collar and associated wiring for the airbag steering wheel...I'd probably want to take every precaution in making sure there's no way that steering wheel will ever get 12 volts again just so the thing doesn't go off.

In other words, I'd cut/remove any airbag-related wiring, including the yellow collar.

Re: installing 90 steering wheel in my 86

It should be the same as my 91 and the horn wires were attached to the two buttons on each side of the air bag. When I pulled it I unhooked the horn wire and have it with the wheel. I would ask if the horn wires are with your 90 wheel. If so just hook them up. They will work fine even though the yellow ring isn't there. If not are the horn buttons on the 90 wheel and if so any of the wire? Take the piece from the older wheel and splice the horn wire leads to it.

The plastic piece that you push in and turn to release is the same as the earlier horn piece. Hook it up as the other came apart and you should be good. Just one other thought is that because we have to cut to put an earlier wheel on in place of an airbag wheel I would assume that you may have a bigger gap between the base of the steering wheel and the plastic around the column.
