Hole in rear hatch carpet?
I've noticed that there is a hole, or well, a semi-circle cut in the rear carpet. What is it for? I was just in another thread and he has the same thing in the same spot. Is there a factory reason for this?

These cars ever came with full size spares? Was there a hook or soemthing that stuck out through the hole?

I am not sure if they ever came with full size spares but if I remember right, I have a loop under that cutout that would hold the spare tire carrier.

That's where you would place and secure your damaged tire while using the spare. Owner's manual shows it.

Re: Hole in rear hatch carpet?
There's a metal loop under the carpet hole. I'm guessing to mount a clamp for holding down your full-size FLAT tyre, once you've taken it off the car. Or if you can't find a space saver spare (like me).
I suppose such a clamp would have come new with the car?

Wow - I just checked the manual and it does show that. I guess I am still learning about the car after owning it for 22 years.

I can only assume that you would use the hold-down hook that holds the
spare in place to secure the flat tire.................
