My New 4th gen mirror and security light installs,+ How to

Just finished my install tonight. My poor cars gonna blow up . This month ive installed a K.I.T.T light,a CB radio,a security LED,and a new rear view mirror
I picked up a 4th Gen rear view mirror with auto dimmer and map lights for 5 dollars. Came with all the wiring and it looked brand new, just dirty. And i also got this little red LED light for 50 cents on Ebay, as well as a Toggle switch. Reason why i bought the light? Security. Out in my area, older cars from the early 90s,80's and 70's always get stolen. I cant afford an alarm right now, im only 16. So i took the simple route instead
How to?
The fourth gen mirror comes with 3 wires. Orange is for a 12V power, black is of course ground, and the white wire is so that when you open your door and when you flip on the interior lights, the map lights on the mirror turn on.
For the mirror install,i first disconnected the power and ground to the battery. Then i removed the old mirror. the old one and left the little mounting piece of metal on the window. I removed my A pillar and moved some of the headliner. Then i tracked the white colored wire that runs to the dome light. (You could also run the mirror to the door pin switch but this route i feel is simpler) I cut into the wire at the top by the sun visor, ran the mirror white wire through the headliner and connected it. Only tricky part was that the dome light wires are coated with the standard coating, and plastic as well. So my wire strippers could barely do it. Next, i connected standard wire to the Orange power wire on the mirror. I ran it through the dash to where the radio pod is. On trans ams, theres a little spot on the drivers side towards the bottom of the pod where you can put wires through. Next i took out my stereo. Located the power wire than runs to the Accessory fuse in the car,and connected the mirror to that. I did the same for the ground wire but i ran it to the ground on the stereo. I put the stereo back in,hid the wires, then attached the mirror to the window. I went and reconnected the battery wires and it worked great. Tested everything to make sure it was all working right. If you do this correctly, when you open your door, the map lights should turn on. And when you flip the interior light switch on, they turn on as well. You should also be able to turn on the map lights with the button on the actual mirror.

Security LED:
On ebay you should be able to type in Fake alarm LED and the first result will be the Red LED i bought for 50 cents. Its actually pretty nice. It has chrome housing and comes with the nuts and washers to tighten it to the plastic once youve installed it. Same goes for the toggle switch. Just Remember ALWAYS have extra standard wire. When you have both of the objects in hand, there is a red and a black wire on the LED, and 2 or 3 mounts on the toggle. I had 2 teeth.
Now ill describe where i mounted the LED. As i said,it comes with nuts and washers to fit snug to the plastic. Also, the LED housing is threaded.
On the dash,on the far left drivers side under the farthest air vent, which is next to the headlight switch,is just a plain piece of plastic thats connected to the plastic which runs under the steering wheel. I removed the first 2 screws from this. Then i popped the plastic under the vent out. It has 2 teeth on the top that hold it. It will cause some force to make it come out,so dont be too cautious about pulling it down. When looking at the plastic, you can see its plain with no wires behind it. So i found a drill bit that was close to the size of the LED housing. I drilled a hole into the spot which i thought was the middle. I then removed the nut from the LED, but KEEP THE WASHER ON. I then took the power and ground wires and put them through the hole and then pushed the LED through as well. Took the nut and screwed it to the back of the LED. Fit nice and snug.
Dont put the plastic back yet. There is a piece of plastic that holds in the Fog light switch as well as 2 other indicator switches. THere are 2 screws on the bottom that hold this in. Remove them. and then the "box" should be able to hang by the wires that are ran to the switches. Go to the right side of this plastic, and as far up as possible and drill a hole. But the toggle has to be able to clear the tooth that holds the plastic in.so avoid that. Just like with the LED,i took a drill bit that was about the size of the housing on the toggle, and drilled. For me,the LED and the toggle were the same size drill bit. Before you mount the toggle in place. remove the top nut and the ON and OFF indicator off of the toggle. Leave the smaller nut on the bottom of the toggle on. Next, shove the toggle in the hole. The box on the back with the teeth HAS to clear any plastic or teeth in the way. Screw the nut and the indicator plate back on. Now its time to connect all of the wires.
This is how I ran the wires, some people might have a problem with the way i did it,but i works great for me. I ran the red (Power) wire from the LED to one of the teeth on the toggle switch. I then soldered this wire on the toggle. As for the other tooth, i ran a wire from that to the stereo power, which is connected to the accessory fuse. The negative on the toggle i ran to the negative on the stereo. I always run it to the stereo for more safety. The accessory fuse in our cars is 20 Amps.

better and cheaper security would have been to put a hidden toggle switch in to kill fuel pump, you just flip it off and fuel pump doesnt work=no start,or toggle on ign switch=no start, just hide switch good
or even to starter.even the nss(neutral safty switch) can be wired to disable the car

That would only help with total vehicle theft prevention. Does nothing for preventing stereo theft/CD theft/random interior item theft/etc. At least it helps deter the other thefts from happening.

Very well done! I might have to invest my .50 into one of these fake alarm LEDs. Lol

That's awesome man! Now I know what car to steal in your area since it doesn't have a real alarm! LOL!
