You gotta be kidding me!

Start of the story- About a year ago my girlfriend ordered a ABS headliner replacement from Hawks. This is a project car and the headliner sat in storage, out of the box fabric side up for about a year. Finally put it in and after a few weeks it started sagging (the fabric). I contacted Hawks about it. Even though i technically was out of the 1 year warrenty, because it was properly stored and only installed for a couple weeks, they sent another out free of charge, which is great customer service. I put it in right when i got it about two weeks ago.

Today im backing the camaro out of the garage and just glancing up to see how its looking. Its sagging. In fact I think this one started falling even faster. Im probably going to call Hawks again but just to give an opinion on not to sell these. This is a hardtop car, so maybe a t-top with little fabric might be better, but overall i think the ABS replacement headliners are junk. My brother had put one in his 4th gen and the whole actual board started sagging so he just ripped it out and going headlinerless. So between me having installed two with sagging fabric and him the whole ABS board bowing down, i give a big thumbs down to these things.

Yeah man that sucks.Ive heard of this happening to a few members. If it were me, id ******* it and use fabric glue(Doesnt Seep through) towards the edges so it stays flat and even.

Re: You gotta be kidding me!

sorry to hear the bad luck. although i know of people having install issues with the t-top versions (they are a bit on the tricky side to line up), this is the first i've ever heard of an issue with a hardtop car. hope you're able to get things fixed up

Re: You gotta be kidding me!

I'v had the fiberglass one in mine for 10 years and it still looks like new, I have t-tops. I had mine out for over a year at one point because I was redoing the whole body. Maybe the newer ones using different glue.

Re: You gotta be kidding me!

I see a lot of problems with the hardtop headliners. Usually, it's the whole headliner that sags, not just the fabric. Recovering a hardtop headliner is so brutally easy, that I always suggest to my customers that unless their backing board is trashed that they recover their stock one instead of buy one of the ABS units. So far though, I've had very few complaints (and only one warranty claim) for the t-top version.

Re: You gotta be kidding me!

I just went to a pick and pull and took a factory board out of a car. Recovered it and called it good. I spent 110. 10 for the board 100 for the material.

Yeah I can tell my overhead console supports most of the weight. If it weren't for it, I would be in trouble, I just hope it never breaks.
