I have an auto car and was wondering how to take off plastic around auto shifter, 87 firebird if that helps

I have a Camaro, but it should be the same. Take off the shifter **** (should be a small pin on the rear of the shifter - put into 1st gear for easier access and then pull upward to remove). Remove Two screws under the console lid,one under the ashtray then remove the shifter handle by pulling out the horse shoe type clip in the front of the handle,move the shifter back to drive lift up on the plate from the rear and guide it out to clear the radio pod,then remove the window and mirror switches and unplug the lighter and that's it.Good Luck.
