The speedometer looks right. The other Gauges look funny, also there is another digit spot for the mileage. But don't know the value would be nice to know tho If I come across one.

Re: how rare is a 160 camaro speedo?
I think the cluster is from a Canadian car. They have that fuel level w/ the little circle icons, an oil press. gauge in KPa and a temp in degC. Only weird thing is, Canada cars had speedos in kmh, that one is mph.

This is the cluster from my Canadian car. Maybe someone swapped the speedo to mph, that 160 mph one sure is a nice unit. I have one exactly like it but it's 145mph.

That's not a factory speedo. Those are aftermarket pieces that were available a long time ago. That's why the print doesn't match the other gauges.

My old 87 Yellow Iroc had one too. It Was a 350/A4 / TTop car.
OIL PSI made me think it was a CANADIAN cluster but the MPH was on the outside and KP on the inside.
More info on the 160 speedo

Re: how rare is a 160 camaro speedo?
There might be one or two members on here who still have a stack of mail order catalogs that it might be in, but thats a slim to none chance at best. It ain't on the web. I'm 99.999999999999999999999% sure of it.
*EDIT*
The post above didn't show up while I was posting this. However, as you can see, it wasn't sold online back then.

Re: how rare is a 160 camaro speedo?
Considering that this gauge at its newest is at least 19yrs old and at its oldest is 29yrs old, what makes you think that anyone would have information on the web about it? Things back in that day were sold by TV ads, mail order catalogs, and phone calls. Pre-1999ish, there was no real internet sales market. As odd as this sounds for me to say, Im 24, I remember when Windows 95 got IE so you could web browse in 1996. By 1996, I'd be willing to bet that gauge wasn't being sold anywhere.

Re: how rare is a 160 camaro speedo?
funny how all i had to do is ask for someone to post some proof of them being aftermarket and bam....they did? no need to be rude about it...im not on a google forum about random topics im on the number one websight for third gen camaro advice so dont be so quick to doubt members on here....everyone has some knowledge others dont
How do you think I know about members stacks of mail order catalogs & hot roddin' magazines? I've been around here long enough to know that somethings aren't on the web due to how old the part is. I've been pointed to several parts from a handful of members on here who do still have their stacks of magazines. Just because one person has the info, doesn't mean everyone else will.
Seeing as how FSTFBDY has pointed this out multiple times to several people, I'd have to say he is one of the few people or only person here that has undisputable evidence to say its an aftermarket gauge. You didn't believe anyone saying it was aftermarket until he posted. I knew it wasn't stock because you can't get a GM stock speedo that is faster than 145mph. Hawks Thirdgen is your friend for finding stock thirdgen parts.

Re: how rare is a 160 camaro speedo?
I prob. wouldnt have know about it being aftermarket either untill I bought an 87 yellow iroc and was like WOW a 160 speedo. Then did some research.
89_RS, I think the oldest mag. I still have dates back to 1989 was beack when GM HI TECH PERFORMANCE was just called HI Tech Perf.. I have stacks of everything from hot rod, etc. Thinned the shelf and shipped off 2 milk crates full of stuff also. Still have dozens left. lol

Re: how rare is a 160 camaro speedo?
i have no need for buying stock third gen parts nor does it matter if only one person on this whole sight had the evidence i was lookig for point is i found the answer i was looking for end of story
Re: how rare is a 160 camaro speedo?
On a site that focuses on third gen Camaros and Firebirds, why should someone have to prove an item is aftermarket when the proof was already given that it wasn't factory? If it's not factory, then there's the proof that it's aftermarket!!

Re: how rare is a 160 camaro speedo?
These were definitely aftermarket. I had one in my 1985 Trans Am. The font doesn't match the stock speedometer and gauges at all. If it was a factory option it would look more like the factory 145MPH speedometers.
If you need further convincing, then try and find the RPO code for that option. The codes exist for the packages etc. that gave you the 145MPH speedometer. None exist for the 160MPH speedo and GM has RPOs for everything that can be optioned in a vehicle.
