I figured every car would of come with this? My t/a doesnt have it but there is a harness behind the right side of the dash where switches usually go, would this be it? I should just be able to buy the button and add plug it in and be good to go correct?

 

Nope. Buy the switch. Check under the passenger's side of the dash to see if the relay (just like the horn relay in the center under the dash) is installed in the connector and install a relay if it's not (mine had the relay but nothing else). The wire you need to plug into is probably taped inside the harness between the fuse panel and the firewall connector. You'll want to run about a 14 gauge wire from this connector to the rear hatch unit (down the driver's side of the car), where the solenoid you will need to buy and install, mounts. You need to remove the hatch unit first and remove the old key lock mechanism by pulling it off and then push the solenoid's key unit onto the lock, followed by reinstalling the hatch unit. Then the key actuator unbolts with one bolt and the solenoid slips on and engages with the latch mechanism before being bolted into place and plugged in.

Should be the same but the wire from the front to the back should be in place too just not connected to anything. Look around near the pull down mechanism. It was there in mine ('91). The hardest part was finding the connector for the relay under the passenger side dash and plugging in the relay. It was tight in there and the wires were short.

 

ok what about the motor thow

 

The motor assembly is the same except for the release solenoid. Unbolt the manual only release and bolt on the solenoid/manual part as described above.

 

Late 91s and 92s had a whole different hatch motor mechanism from the 85-early 91s. I'll need to look it up to see what's what in the 92 FSM.

And the wire running front to back doesn't exist on a car not having the option, it has to be added. It's separate from the harness that runs between the C208 and the tail harness connectors.

 

My '91 had the wire already there. Just plugged in the button, relay and solenoid and off she went.
