Stock Radio
I can't find a stock radio for a 1987 GTA I just bought. I really want to keep it stock and my audio tech guy can take it from there with behind the scene parts. Any help would be nice. BTW this is the most fun car I have owned, LOVE IT! Thanx GENI

Re: Stock Radio
your posting in the wrong spot, goto classifieds wanted to buy !!
Re: Stock Radio
Ebay or the classifieds is probably your best bet.
You can use the stock head unit to control a stereo built entirely from aftermarket components. I ran a stock head unit with line out converters, an FM cd changer, aftermarket amps, etc... After 9 months or so I swapped it for a Pioneer CD player and was blown away at how much better it sounded.
I can appreciate wanting the stock deck for cosmetics, but it'll cripple any sound system you connect to it.

Re: Stock Radio
Possible to go with a newer Delco deck? My 89 has one from a 2002 GMC/Chevy truck and looks very stock, and for the most part they are plug-n-play. Some of them even have an input for steering wheel controls as the GTA does. Depending on what the radio came from, you may have to take the faceplate apart and color the back sides of the buttons to match the Pontiac lighting, I did this with my Camaro and changed all the lighting to red.

Re: Stock Radio
A lot of GM radios will fit, and look perfectly fine in an 80s bird. If you went with a newer model stereo, it'll probably have better sound quality too.

Re: Stock Radio
The perfect radio for an 87 GTA is the stock Pontiac CD head unit used in the early 2000's on many Pontiacs such as Trans Am, Grand Am and Grand Prix. They are backlit red so they look stock. And very available so they are cheap, I bought a perfect one for $20.

Re: Stock Radio
Most '87 GTA's had the UT4 "touch control" stereo. I bought mine off of eBay because mine was missing when I bought the car. These stereos are old, and they're getting to where they don't work so great anymore, sometimes mine changes stations right by itself.
I'll probably end up doing like the other poster and using a '97-'03 Pontiac stereo.
