Re: Thinking about re-doing my whole interior the cheep way.
If you look at my post #35 in this thread you will see my plastic has carpet
on it 'from the factory'. It was all light grey both plastic and carpet. I used SEM
on all of it as per it's instructions. After the dye job i used an electric shaver to
shave all the fuzz from the top of the carpet. Pictures has some glare and don't
do it justice. It looks great.
Today i got a can of trim adhesive $6, a yard of headliner material $11 and a
bottle of black RIT shoe shine $1. I recovered my speaker covers and dye'd my
seat belts black 'they were faded'. It looks great.
Little by little ON THE CHEAP.

I just saw the link posted up a few posts to the other thread on how to remove the paint from carpet. That's what I'm talking about. If you do the job correctly the first time, and spend the necessary amounts to do it right, you won't have to do it again.
Guys, I'm trying to help change the image of thirdgen owners. People everywhere look at this site and comment on how crappy we fix our cars and how we are too cheap. The tone of this thread changed completely when people got what it was I was saying. If people from other sites came to this thread after about post 20 or 25, they will see that the advice given is to do it correctly and people offering advice on how to do it. That's what we need here. Help me change the image of 3rd genners by watching how you word things and offer advice on doing things correctly. There are ways of accomplishing tasks inexpensively. Look at the re dye of the one interior for $20. It looks good in pics and hopefully looks good in person. That's what matters. Remember, all fabrics from the factory are dyed to the color we see when the car is new. So why can't we re dye or re color and have it look as good as the factory. If you paint the interior plastics, be sure to clean and prep every piece first and use a quality plastic paint/dye. It will adhere better and last much longer. Good luck and thanks for understanding my position.

For the record, I agree with your point and your purpose, you just came off a little harsh.
On my part, I would like to apologize for jumping on you without giving you the opportunity for clarification.

Re: Thinking about re-doing my whole interior the cheep way.
I have read everything posted and agree we need to watch our wording. I myself looked at many threads here before joining and have never had reason to think twice about it. I need to do most work myself and keep costs reasonable. For me that will mean new carpet when I am ready though because mine is worn. I did like seeing the pics of the plastics all carpeted because the ones I got from a 83? Camaro I scrapped were all done this way in black. I wish I could glue the center console but the covering has shrunk where it pulled away. I will probably have to replace it later.
