i just pulled up the carpet on my 88 camaro to replace it. there were no problems except on the passenger side the carpet was wet underneath. i have a cracked windshield that i have yet to replace and am curious if that could be leading to the cause. if someone could help me figure out where the water is coming from thats be awesome. thanks.

On the passenger side above where your feet are when you sit in the car, there are black plastic air ducts. If you see signs of corrosion or water leaking from the seams in the air ducts you more than likley have a leaking heater core.

. A leaking heater core is common: The windshield will fog over at some point and coolant will collect on the pass side floor. If the fluid color is greenish, you have your answer. If clear, you'll need to look elsewhere for the leak--perhaps faulty T-top weatherstripping, pass side window left open or cracked and so on. A search on site would also no doubt provide suggestions.JamesC

This is what a rotted heater core looks like.

quick way to determine if you have a leaky heater core, turn on the defroster. if it fogs the window you have a leaky heater core. usually the foggy window and the wet floor board on the passanger side are the first indications of it leaking. its not all that hard to change either. something even a beginner like yourself can do with basic hand tools.

I think there were two very recent threads about changing out heater cores around here so we can skip that topic.
