Auto Shift Indicator?

Can anyone tell me if there are certain year camaro auto shift plates that I can put in my 85 Z28. The current plate does not have a "moving" indicator to show the gear selected nor does it light up.

I want to try and find a light up plate that has the red/orange gear indicator.....Thanks...

Re: Auto Shift Indicator?

hello, i have a 89 camaro rs and i want to replace the auto shifter indicator, mine lights up. I dont know how to remove the **** from the shift gear stick. Mine has a middle button that u push down in order to move the gears. I dont want to mess it up, so how can i replace just the indicator and which other years would fit on mine? I would really appreciate it if i can get some help.

Re: Auto Shift Indicator?

To get the **** off you have to pull out the U shaped staple clip.It is on the front of the **** and faces the radio.Pry it out with a thin flathead screwdriver and then the **** will come off

Re: Auto Shift Indicator?

Once the shift plate comes off, you will notice the shift indicator section is sealed in some sections. https://www.thirdgen.org/forums/inte...ou-remove.html

OK, so to make sure I understand, my '86 does NOT have a gear indicator? I know the bulb is good because I just replaced it.

Re: Auto Shift Indicator?

hello me again, ok mine had the clip or staple looking thing in the front of the shifter **** towards the stereo. I took it off, and i can't seem to pull the **** off, I twisted to the left and to the right and even tried pulling it up. It wont move to any direction. Is there a secret to taking it off? please help again. Oh and by the way i sprayed with WD40 and left its soaking.
Thank you

Re: Auto Shift Indicator?

I have never removed the **** with the staple in it but it
would be worth your time to pull the shifter top button off
and LOOK down inside and check to see if you have a
snap ring holding the shifter ball to the shaft................

I know the other ball removal threads say to just remove the
staple and the ball will just pull off but I would have a looksee
inside of it for a snap ring................

My 84 had no staple only snap rings.

Once the u-clip is removed the **** is removed by pulling straight up off the stick.

Keep your face out of the way.

OK, thanks. Wow, that seems a little strange on GM's part, but oh, well. At least I can quit stressing about it now.
