3rd Gen and 4th Gen auto shifters basically the same?

Hey guys,

I'm wondering if there is any difference between the third and 4th gen auto shifters? The reason is I want to get a manual shift ball with a firebird logo on it. My buddy with an 02 T/A has on top of his auto shifter. They sell them for the 4th gens but I don't know if they're compatable with ours or not. It's only $20.00 for the adapter, so I may buy one and see, but I'd rather ask around first. Here is what I'm talking about.

By using this adapter you push "down" to shift instead of pushing the button in.

Automatic Shifter Adapter

Any thoughts?

You should have no problem using the 3rd gen shifter, the only real difference I see is that the 4th gen has a shift-lock selonoid.

So what you're saying is the adapter for the 4th gen should work just fine with the 3rd gen? Ok, I"ll buy it and see what happens. I'm looking at a black shift **** with a gold firebird emblem on it. To shift you "push down", which is the same as pushing the button in on the normal auto ****.
