Ignition key will only rotate to "off" position 50% of the time

When shutting off the engine on my '91 Z28, about 50% of the time the key will not rotate all the way around to the "off" position when you push the button and depress the lever that are located on the steering column. This leaves power going to any "Accessories" that may be "on" such as the radio. The key turns fine in the ignition cylinder and it seems to be more in the button and lever than the ignition cylinder. I wonder if a spring or something along those lines has gotten weak? Has anyone else had any similar experience like this and if so how did you resolve it? I doubt if the button and lever are part of the ignition cylinder, but maybe they are. Sorry for any confusion. Thank you.

Greg

A big shout-out to fellow TGO member "ASE doc". I contacted him from another post and asked for his help with an issue involving my '91 steering column. Well he was not only generous with his time in researching and E-mailing much needed and useful information (more than once) in what the problem most likely was, but also passed along step by step details on disassembling the column including helpful hints on how to keep up with the many small parts. Hat's off to ASE doc.
