Headliner replaceed and seats repaired
I've had the entire interior out except for the dash board for a complete redo of late. New carpets and thermo insulation was installed previously, different thread, and now the rest has been finished.
The front seats were dirty with the driver's side having several tears and rips due to use. These were repaired by a local shop that took weeks to locate the correct matching material. The overall result was fantastic. Hard to see from the pics but they look like new compared to what 26 years of wear did to them.
Redone.
Before.
The headliner was replaced with a set from Classic Industries that had the headliner material, sail panels, and sun visors.
Here's what it looked like when I took it out.

Here is what the new vs old looks like.

This is a picture of what the innards of a sun visor looks like. Pretty cheap I think.

First I used the adhesive not made by 3M, a mistake. use the adhesive in front in this picture not the one behind.

You are going to need clips, too 3 of them. CI has clips for the front part of the headliner near the windshield.
And while your at it get the clips that keep up the side rails on the upper sides of the doors. They can easily break after a couple decades. I found a bag at my local auto parts store.

Re: Headliner replaceed and seats repaired
This was a lot of work getting all this done. The scariest part is gluing the headliner material to the headliner panel. You get one chance to do it right. If the headliner panel has ANY marks or defects - if it is not perfectly flat and true - it will show up on the visible side of the headliner after the material has been applied. Push marks, holes, dents, scrapes, ALL SHOW UP. Believe me, I have some uneven spots and it shows, not much but my headliner panel was in decent shape to begin with. If you think you have any questions about your headliner panel, toss it and get a replacement.

Be careful with the seat belt cover clips that attach to the roof part of the headliner. They can be fragile, too. Luckily I did not break mine and I hope I never have to touch them again.
I still need to take a pic of the finsihed product.

Re: Headliner replaceed and seats repaired
I used about 3/4's of the orange can and the entire can of the 3M adhesive. It seemed like the 3M adhesive stuck faster and held stronger than the Permatex stuff. Figure on using two cans of the headliner adhesive and at $16 a can for the 3M product can be costly. The headliner material, the sail panels, and visors cost about 200 hundred with another $15 in clips; it was not a cheap job. This was my first crack at a headliner so I took my time being very careful on prep work and making sure I had what I needed to complete the job.

You should remove the starting instruction label from the d/s sun visor and put it on the new one.

Those aftermarket visors are thicker and more padded than the originals, but personally I think they look and feel higher quality.

Re: Headliner replaceed and seats repaired
Good question. The first lot was too green so the local shop where I had it done found the correct '86 gray at a second vendor. I'll have to call him and ask him from where he got the material. Give me a day or two to call him.

Re: Headliner replaceed and seats repaired
My local shop got the material from Miami Corp. in Cincinatti, Ohio. It was in stock. They are a direct vendor to businesses, not to the general public so you'll have to find an upholstery shop to get it.
