ThirdgenRanch sells the pre-cut carpet kits for the rear plastics, you might need to get samples so you can compare it to the floor carpet though.

I would go with the precut, the edges would have a nice finished cut.

Re: interior plastics carpet
I had the pre cut. FWIW I returned the set and I am going to buy the carpet by the yard when I get my interior carpet set. I wasn't too happy with the match and if I buy it all at the same time and tell them to make sure it is all the same dye lot, I am sure everything will match. I am going to get it with the poly back and heat the back slightly to conform to the plastics.

the precut carpet is goldish i have it. its not that close to the medium doeskin color i need. i will use the precut ones as templates though for the extra yardage

Re: interior plastics carpet
The edges aren't finished on the factory pieces. They are just neatly cut and they have a foam backing applied that conforms to the shape of the panel. The edges are raw and they just fit into the recesses on the panel. The only carpet that has a finished edge is on the kick panels up front. They have a serging applied to them. I have to find someone local that has that machine that can apply that edge.
I have to find a place that repairs oriental rugs. That same edge is applied to some of them.
Kitt - I saved my old carpet that I removed to use as templates. For awhile, I was actually thinking of reusing them because they aren't in bad shape. But the match would have been off to what ACC sells.
Their version of charcoal is different then what I have now.

Re: interior plastics carpet
I think Denny just made templates from original carpet that he had removed from some interior panels. He then uses the templates to cut the carpet into kits. If the color wasn't off, I probably would have used it, even though I wasn't that thrilled with the quality. The ACC carpet is definitely better quality then what was in the car originally. I bought a set of their mats and thought they looked great, and they conform to the floor exactly as the originals. I hope their carpet comes in as nice. I am waiting to get my car back from paint prison to order it...

Get the poly back. It looks like the backing on the samples they send you. It can be formed with a little bit of heat, and should hold well to the plastics with a little bit of glue, like the originals did. I really don't like the idea of using contact cement to attach it to the plastics. You have to glue the whole piece, and you can never remove it. The panel is junk if you ever need to change a piece of it. Shape the poly back with a bit of heat, use a glue gun sparingly on it, and it should be good. The stuff from Denny didn't feel very substantial.
Don't get the wrong idea - I am a regular thirdgen ranch customer. I just didn't like that carpet kit.
When you refer to the different backings that come on ACC carpet, their carpet by the yard comes in 2 types - poly and latex. The latex back looks like what Denny sells. It has no body to it. The poly back is the thin, clear plastic back. They form that backing with heat to mold to different cars, so you should be able to do the same with it for the interior panels.
Cut pile refers to the actual carpet itself. All the carpet for late models is cut pile. The old 50's stuff is a loop pile, which means the yarn is continuous filament, and it loops back into the backing. If you pull on it, it will unravel, and pull the next loop out also.

Re: interior plastics carpet
From my ACC rep:
"The poly is the hard plastic backing that is moldable. The latex has a thin rubberized backing that is more pliable (flexible)."
hope that helps!

If you need something to go around curves and angles, I'd recommend the latex since its thinner and more flexible. Probably better since you're going on smaller surfaces that are not flat.

Re: interior plastics carpet
OK - just an update on this thread - I just wanted to let you guys know that I successfully used carpet by the yard from ACC to recover the interior plastics. I used the poly back carpet. They came out great. I used a heat gun to soften the backing almost to the point of liquid, and then I stretched it over the curves of the plastics. Then I used brush on contact cement to adhere it to the plastics. In the stubborn spots I used a hot melt glue gun. I originally did not want to use contact cement but it was the only way to get them to lay flat on the panels. It should come off if I ever need to change a piece of it with some effort.
I ordered the carpet by the yard the same time as I ordered the new carpet for my car, so it is the same dye lot and there are no shading differences. I ordered 3 yards and it was way too much, even with the lockable hatch. I should have ordered 2 yards.
Here are a few pics of the big panel. I still have to make the cut for the lock cylinder. I am not sure if I have to cut around the whole cylinder or if I can get away with cutting the same size hole as in the plastic and letting the lock cylinder sit on top of the carpet. I am going to try it that way first.
