84 CAMARO HELP!!!!!!!! MISSING RADIO BEZEL AND WHAT EVER THE BEZEL BOLTS TO
Hi,
i have an 84 camaro berlinetta. just bought the car. have been doin some small repairs to get the car drivable again. i have recently hit a rock and could really use a hand.
the console trim is all there from cubby to shifter to ashtray/cig lighter. after that there is nothing but a hole (flat hole) (BIG) and all the stereo wires are just sitting there. i have found radio faceblates online but what do they bolt to? the only thing foreward from the ashtray is the dash?
not even sure what the heck to look for. i feel like a moron cuz i should know what goes there but i honestly cant figure it out. sorry if this is a easy question. have loved camaros all my life and this is the first one i have owned. so i do not know much, thanks for your help.
i can upload a pic or to if you are having troubles understanding what im talking about.....thanks again for everyone taking a minute to help me!

I'm only taking a guess here, but where you mention big flat hole as well as having a Berlinetta, perhaps it had the big pod/swivel radio?
The picture is of my guess. For additional help, I'd try www.berlinetta.info which is where I found the photo.

That would be my guess as well, seeing as how I own an 84 Berlinetta. If your car has the digital gauge cluster, chances are real good it had the swivel pod radio at some point. The piece of plastic it mounts through which covers that gaping hole you are describing is next to impossible to find as a replacement part. To make matters worse, you can't simply swap out a regular third gen console with a regular radio socket because the dash is shaped differently and it won't fit.
I'd check with with John at berlinetta.info, he's probably your best chance at finding a replacement piece to put in there.
This is what it should look like assembled...

Yep, you're missing the panel, the pod, the stalk and the tuner box that mounts below the console. What a mess. Ouch. If you want to mount an aftermarket stereo, you can get an underdash kit and turn it upside down, mount the radio in it and mount it over the hole you have. It will require some dremel work and some patience, but it can be done.
Here's a photo of someone else's modification to add an aftermarket using an upside down underdash kit:

I am leaving my pod in place and installing an mp3 system out of sight so it looks stock but has nice digital tunes. Since you are missing all those parts, it might be easier for you to look into the underdash kit method.
