you might want to show a picture of the back, are these both cable driven units or vss driven?
The tach one will bolt in but you may need to repin at the ip plugs.

So your old dash is a no options dash with warning lights instead of gauges and a big *** fuel level gauge, the new has a higher mph speedo, all the gauges and a tach. Should just work like that, no problem. All camaros from those years have cable driven speedos
Re: HELP !! WRONG GAUGE CLUSTER - F'd !!
all you have to do is plug it in and change the oil pressure sending unit and the coolant temp sending unit and the cluster will work fine. tach might read wrong if say you have a six and that cluster is for a 8

Re: HELP !! WRONG GAUGE CLUSTER - F'd !!
You have a couple of options.
Now:
- Replace just the speedo (Ie. add it to your original cluster). You may not have to remove the cluster, but if you do it that way you'll have to take it apart where it sits.
- Or get the sending units for the gauges and verify that the wiring is correct for them and the fuel gauge/tach (using the link provided above).
Now:
- Relax
- You may be able to use the tach on the cluster instead of having one mounted to the column, although it probably won't be as accurate
- Check out the new cluster and look at the clip on the back of the speedo. that is what you will have to push in to remove the original cluster. It's easier to see how to remove it if you have an idea of what you're doing.
- Another note is if you are picky about the notification lights on the bottom, then you may want to transfer everything over to your original cluster and they should work the same. Some cars are different than others and they might not match up (Ie. choke, engine etc...). I didn't care on mine since the systems were completely different so I just removed the bulbs.
- One last note is that the tach may be for a V6 so don't be surprised if it is way off. IIRC, there's a way to tell by the red line but I forgot which is which.
- Another last note is that you'll have to remove the tach on the column and possibly drop the column to get the cluster out. If you're careful, sometimes you can squeeze it through if you have tilt.

My car originally just like yours, dummy lights and a fuel gauge.
I was able to go to the higher option cluster pretty easily if I remember right. We had to swap out the sending units for the water and oil pressure.
That was about it, we put the new cluster in and everything worked. (tach, oil, water etc.)
My car was an 84, and I think we got a cluster from an 87??
I would just swap out the sending units and try the cluster out and see if it all works.
