1989 Hatch Motor

I have a 1989 trans am and the hatch latch is stuck down. The motor is very hot to the touch do you think the motor went bad? Any help would be appreciated.

Re: 1989 Hatch Motor

That's exactly what happens when electric motors die. Instead of turning they get hot. I'd be careful. They can melt and smoke and stuff. Take it out, bench test it etc... You should be able to release the hatch with 2 people though since the latch isn't the motor. One lifts up, the other hits the release. (Or with the key? )
