Shift plate restoral.
Just made an interesting discovery,
I bought a Turtle Wax headlight restoral kit for the truck and the G6. It comes with 3 stages of wetsanding blocks, some lubricant for the wetsanding and some polishing compound.
In a moment of boredom, I was looking at my Firebird 5spd shift plate that I recently received as a bonus from T-Top350 with the purchase of my T-56 and it has some nasty scratches and cig burns in it. I was pretty much going to run it as a temp cover and find one in better condition. So I figured what can it hurt?
Anyway, I taped of the grid patterns on the plate to avoid scuffing over them with the sandpaper. I was only looking at wetsanding near the ashtray and down the sides of the shifter opening here.
After an hour of wetsanding and polishing there is now only a couple very small spots left where there was a couple really bad burns. The shift plate looks lightyears better than it did and I might actually keep it now.
Thought this $8 tip might help someone else here. That was far cheaper than buying the sandpaper, compound and everything seperatly and $90 cheaper than buying another plate. I now have clear headlights on two vehicles and a restored console plate!
