Hi There,

They are made exactly like the factory, but with a much stronger plastic. There shouldn't be any issues.

We are constantly working to bring new items to the market place. If you have any recommendations, please let me know, and I will forward it on.

Let me know if I can help you with anything else

Thanks,
Heather

Any chance they will be made in different colors? I'd rather not have to paint one.

$70 for that trim piece? That seems really high. Why would a cheap thin piece of plastic cost that much?

Not defending the price, but there is more to it than just a "thin piece of plastic". Tooling costs, setup fees etc. I'm guessing the production runs on this particular piece is relatively low, so there is not many parts to spread the cost out over.

If we start buying these by the thousands, I bet you would see a reduction in price to what you think it should have been in the first place.

It's well worth the money if it is a good reproduction.

And again, the reason we can't get parts made for our cars!!! Your comments are really ignorant. Just say thank you to Hawk's for doing this. If you don't want to spend the money to fix your car the right way, then keep buying the cracked and broken pieces from the junkyard.

Re: NEW REPRODUCTION HEADLINER TRIM PIECE AVAILABLE!!!

I need this piece! I just held off on buying it because it's black.. I can definitely paint it though.. Does the company only offer black?

And suggestions for reproduction parts are:

1) A pillars with new weatherstripping
2) Seatbelts! In the popular colors like black, grey, beige, red, etc. Even old ones in good shape with rebuilt springs and buttons have old brittle plastic that crack off..

And thank you Hawks for continuing to support and provide for us thirdgen owners!!

Re: NEW REPRODUCTION HEADLINER TRIM PIECE AVAILABLE!!!

Hey Everyone,

I appreciate the feedback and suggestions, all are taken seriously. This piece was sent to a manufacturing facility to be REproduced. This is no easy task and definitely not a cheap one. This is a BRAND new piece which is made from heavy reinforced plastic and way more durable than the original pieces. Anyone interested in placing an order for this part, or any parts available at Hawks can contact me directly

Thanks,
Heather

Re: NEW REPRODUCTION HEADLINER TRIM PIECE AVAILABLE!!!

color matching is going to be a PITA , i used to worked at a plastic mold injection shop . alot of work goes into reproducing a piece , thank you . what material did you with for the reproduction ? and the A pillars would be nice to have new . and if you did it would help to add some gussets to keep from warping .

Personally I would like Light Saddle tan beige from the 1986 camaro year. I think this color ranged from 85 to 87.

Everybody, I think (??) that GM had these all manufactured in one color also and then they were painted, like all the other interior plastics. Or, were they really molded in color? I've not broken any to know if the color is all the way thru.

Re: NEW REPRODUCTION HEADLINER TRIM PIECE AVAILABLE!!!

The one in my GTA is cracked around the screw holes and appears to be gray in color all the way through. Other interior panels I've had trim or modify for the stereo where the same way, gray in color through out.

I am looking into colors, HOWEVER, I imagine that even if we could get a tan, grey, etc....the chances of it matching what your color is, that's very unlikely. Due to age of the cars, fading, etc.... Is this a concern for you all? Does it matter?

Thanks

Re: NEW REPRODUCTION HEADLINER TRIM PIECE AVAILABLE!!!

It shouldn't matter if you can duplicate the factory colors. There weren't different shades of grey, black or red. I believe the tan had two shades, but I don't know that for sure. Are you getting these made in bulk or on an as ordered basis? Bulk pricing, I can understand getting it in black only, but if you can manufacture based on color orders, then that would be a win win.

Re: NEW REPRODUCTION HEADLINER TRIM PIECE AVAILABLE!!!

If you were able to get a brand like SEM to duplicate the interior colors then it wouldn't be an issue. The problem is getting a paint that matches. I had to have paint custom mixed to match because nothing off the shelf matched.

I noticed these are listed for 82-92. 91 & 92 are different to accommodate the interior high mount center brake light. There are cut-outs for attaching the cover for the coiled harness for the light bulb.

I'd like to see it produced in Carmine Red, at least I think that is what the 1987 Red interior trim is called. I'd buy one today if it were available.

None of my Red interior plastics seem to be painted, they seem to all be molded in the plastic color that they are, perhaps I am wrong but I am rather sure of it.

Re: NEW REPRODUCTION HEADLINER TRIM PIECE AVAILABLE!!!

There were two different beige colors. Light saddle (85-87) and Beechwood (88 and beyond). Beechwood was much darker than Light Saddle. Hawks headliner came Light saddle and matched my interior perfectly. I would still buy it in black and paint it but that's because I'm re-painting the whole interior and will have to paint it anyway.

Unfortunately these are only manufactured in black. They are made in bulk. They can be dyed. Sorry about that everyone....

I agree with you guys. We run into situations where we can have reproduction parts made. If we make them different than original, everyone wants original. If we make them exactly as original, everyone wants them new and improved from the original We have tried to keep everything as close to original as possible but not OEM, but as close as close can get. We feel that keeping the repro parts as close to original as possible is the best fit for our business and keeping our customers happy. It also prevents from having to buy more than one (in most cases...except those items that come in a set only) piece when you only need one that is needing replaced.

I hope this helps....thanks for the feedback. I would love to be your go to gal when you need parts! Please reach out to me if you need anything.

Thanks,
Heather

On the seatbelts, we have new and used in black and grey for both sides. That's all we have at this time...

The A pillars, I am hearing this a lot. I will forward it up the chain...

Any other ways you feel we can support the third gens, let me know

They are made in bulk. We have made color items in the past and we got so many complaints that it doesn't match. There is no way to get a color close enough to the original colors that are now faded from 20 years....impossible.

Re: NEW REPRODUCTION HEADLINER TRIM PIECE AVAILABLE!!!

Wow I am surprised to finally see an interior plastic piece reproduced!

I really hope that Hawks will eventually reproduce the rest of the interior plastics. The '82 to '87 cars without the 3 point rear seatbelt have a major issue with the plastic dry rotting. I've found that sometimes the only way to get a good plastic panel without a belt cutout is to rob it from an '88 and dye it.

BTW one item that would be awesome to have reproduced are the '82 to '84 Firebird defrost and rear hatch release switches. 99% of them are dry rotted.

That should be $200 !!

Your other option is to find 2 broken ones, and piece them together.

This part goes just above your head if you were in the back seat. It's the transition piece that covers the edge of the headliner to the rear window. It connects the driver side b pillar to the passenger side b pillar.

This thread is a few years old, the price I see now on these is around $100 + shipping. Keep complaining and hope that it will help.

Three posts and two of them are here complaining about prices. He probably has a $2000 car that needs one of everything and doesn't want to pay to play like the rest of us big boys. Again, this is why the aftermarket makes crap for us third gen owners. Very few people are willing to pay to fix their cars correctly.

Re: NEW REPRODUCTION HEADLINER TRIM PIECE AVAILABLE!!!

I'm happy to spend money if its a good reproduction and I'm pretty picky on quality hence me asking if someone actually bought one and could share their findings with the rest of us.

But seems like no-one on here got one yet so I will wait to here real comments from people that got one and installed it.

Bruce, I would however I live in the UK so not as easy to do I'm afraid with shipping costs, import duties etc.

I'm sure the product is exactly as you describe it to be however I would rather hear from a handful of customers that bought, installed and possibly painted it to match etc. rather than the vendor if you see what I mean.

Great for you. I hope he sells thousands. Then maybe the price will drop and I can afford a flawless new piece. Arizona is a different world when looking for antique car parts. They tend to last much longer in a warm dry climate. However, here in the snow belt, most of these cars have long since rusted back to the ground they came from. I have found ONE 84 Camaro in all the yards around here and the guy wont turn loose of a single part from it, not even a lighter. I bought one of these pieces for $35 off ebay with small cracks and repaired it myself, much better than any I have seen done before (I will post a thread soon). If you think I or anyone else here is happy about the cost of third gen "gold", think again. I was just telling you what the going rates are, and for a piece that has serious initial production costs, it's not outrageous. May you find bountiful cheap parts in your quest to make your car how you want it. Those of us that can't, don't have a whole lot of options.

So Bruce you say it's stronger plastic, but do you mean thicker, or is it just made from a better plastic? Also can I still get one for $70?

I tried just that, I bought one from a member here last year. He took pics of it looking straight down at it, No cracks anywhere......

I took it out the box and the dam thing had more waves in it than the ocean, It went right in the trash.

When it comes to my show vehicles, I could care less what a part cost.....If I need it to make my vehicle "RIGHT" so be it, I'll be buying one of these when I start my interior.......
