Electric trunk latch problem

Can someone tell me how to fix my electric trunk latch on my 91 RS? It will open and close but the motor does not pull it the rest of the way down like it should. There is one wire that is hanging but there is no where for it to go. It is a small wire with two square holes on the end of it. Sorry if this explanation does not help any, i know nothing at all about this trunk latch though and if someone could just direct me to a diagram of how and where everything goes that would be greatly appreciated. Thanks, Nick.

Re: Electric trunk latch problem

Take a look at the Tech Article I wrote that is under the "General Rpair" category. The title lists it as repairing just that 86-87, but that is just pages 1-2. Pgs 3-4 are for the 88-91. If you are hearing the motor run, but it is a shirt cycle down, then the clear plastic motor housing is broken where the 3 screws attach it to the frame. If the motor runs, yet doesn't move the latch portion up or down, then the gear nut is broken. I have all the parts to repair your hatch pull-down unit.

Hey Lonsal, my hatch release just started making a constant motor sound. I unplugged the clip to the ? and noise stopped. Hatch closes but does not pull completely down to a sealed position. I knowtest you mentioned that if it made noise it was the gear nut. Could you please add a picture and some detailed info so i can replace the part needed. I see you mentioned a article under general repair. I could not find it. Pictures would be great. We are in rainy season, so would like to get fixed right away. I might have parts but not sure until i know what i need. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thank you in addvance

Re: Electric trunk latch problem

I just had that same problem and since I like finding thing out on my own, I took it all apart and found that there is a gear that brings the nut all the way down,is a plastic nut and it broke in half and u can get it from this website
