Dash lights inop

I decided to put the lightbulb in that made the gear selector light up. Ops check was good at the time. Drove around some, Ops Check still good on all the dash lights. Go to get in the car at night to go to work and the dash lights don't work. They are dark, including the gear selector light, but the E. Brake, turn signals, etc still function. Fuse appears to be not be blown (havent ohmed it out yet), and the taillights and headlights function properly. Any ideas as to what might be causing the dash lights to not work suddenly? I work nights so I really need to get this fixed ASAP.

Thanx in advance.

Re: Dash lights inop

Does the car have a aftermarket stereo?

If so check out the stereo wiring hookups to the factory radio
wiring. Sometimes the dumb installer hooks up the new stereo to
the dash light circuit instead of the radio power circuit.

When you use the stereo and the headlight/dash lights its too much
power draw thru the 5? amp. fuse and the dash lights go out till u
replace the fuse. Or it ends up shorting out the dash light circuit
or melts the dash light circuit board !!!!!!!

Seen this happen too many times from a improper aftermarket stereo
install.

Its the remote dimmer switch. Jumped the connector, came on as they should.
