Rear Seat Belt Delete?

Im in the process of redoing my interior carpet, seats, ect... Im thinking of just doing away with the rear seat belts. My car is a vert so I would just eliminate the receptical part and cut the belts and tuck them into the side panel?

Any downside? Is there something im missing?

Re: Rear Seat Belt Delete?

Well, you effectively turn your 4-seater into a 2-seater. I run around in my 'vert with the seats down all the time but every once in awhile I have to have someone sit in the back and in my state, everyone has to be belted up.
Why would you want them out anyway?

in nj only need to wear seat belts in the front. my seat belts look kinda shitty and the interior im putting in is a brand new carpet, the plastics are in great shape and the seats i got are in great shape.... the seat belts are kinda crappy

Click It Or Ticket, what part of NJ you live in,it's a state law that every passenger regardless of seating position wear a seat belt
http://www.nj.gov/oag/hts/seatbelts.html
If I were you I would buy another set of belts, your going through all the work to restore your interior and your going to pass on safety.

eh i did not know that, buts thats one of those laws i just wont follow.... from a safety stand point, have you ever sat in the back of a firebird you need a shoe horn to get in that thing... your not going anywhere in the back in the event of an accident...

new jersey what a crumby state this is.. the seat belt laws are just for money making... think about it you can roll thru inspection now with no seat belts, no brakes and pass as long as you arent polluting... they do away with safety inspection but require people in the back to wear seatbelts... funniest part is iv never worn a seatbelt in the front and been pulled over so many times, but not for seatbelts. however i get the seat belt tickets instead of speeding tick or ect...

Re: Rear Seat Belt Delete?

Your call man but I'd put them back in or spring for new ones. If you ever go to sell it, it may be a deal breaker for a new owner. It would be for me.
Good luck!

Me too. Keep them and just keep searching for good used ones. If your red pushbuttons have faded to pink (or white), you can get a GM rebuild kit with new buttons for around $15 on ebay. I replaced my disintegrated front receivers with some really nice used ones that I got at the JY for around $10, then redid all 4 of my buttons. Spent $25 and they look brand new

Re: Rear Seat Belt Delete?

There is a couple reasons to keep seat belts.

1 - There is a FEDERAL seat belt law that everyone needs to be belted in.

2 - Under FEDERAL LAW, if it came equipped with seat belts from the factory, so it must have WORKING seat belts (to pass a safety inspection). Some states do not do regular safety inspections, others do.

Just because your local LEO don't enforce the laws, doesn't mean they don't exist...

Re: Rear Seat Belt Delete?

do whatever you want its your car, you are now informed of the law....
the seatbelts should be installed with a single torx head bolt, mabe t27, not sure, i deleted the rear seats in my car, im not taking ppl for rides mine is a toy and ill be damned if i keep seatbelts in the back just because i "might" get a ticket, i might get a ticket for speeding, but i rarely do the speed limit unless the road conditions call for it

Re: Rear Seat Belt Delete?

You dont get tickets for that , youget to sit in the back of a crusier and watch the exhaust pipes dragon the ground as its being loaded onto a flat bed , then you go one way and your car goes another , but have fun while you can . been there done that . not doing it again I have way to mutch respect fer my car to even smoke in it nevermind let some greasemonkey drag itaway.

I'm thinking that almost everyone except you thinks that this is a bad idea. But, hey, it's your car so do as you wish just don't expect a lot of support from here. I'm sorry, I meant from me. I can't presume to speak for anyone else. Good luck!
