Katzkin Leather Seat Covers Installed

Katzkin Leather Seat Covers Installed
I picked up my seats from the upholstery shop today and I think they look pretty good. As you can see, I'm converting the solid back rear seats in my '91 GTA to the Notchback/Turbo TA style rear seats. I'm also doing a complete color change... the original interior is black and I'm switching over to Beechwood tan.

Carlos - they look a little loose. The shops usually have secrets for tightening up the seat covers with steam. I believe they could steam the foam to expand it, and also steam the covers to fit better. I have seen those covers in person in TTAs and they usually fit tight.

Beechwood tan iterior will look fantastic in that black GTA, looking forward to se the after transformation pics.
I have to agree, the seat covers do not appear to be installed with great respect to detail.

Those look nice and are gonna look even better in the car. Really like the split rear seat set up. Guess I don't know the birds enough to know they offered a rear seat "headrest" version.
There is a couple areas that are a little looser than desirable. Might see if they car steam the edges of the rear seat backs and front lower bolster areas. Who knows it might kinda shrink in a little as the leather tightens up.
Look good anyway, and I'm sure will be a huge improvement. Gotta love the smell too!

The guy was telling me that my seats foam was old and lost a lot of it's original form, but he said the leather will conform more with the seats in time. I also learned that the shop that put the covers on mainly deals with new cars and they aren't really setup to do major upholstery work. They're one of Katzkin's installers for new cars. If the covers don't look any tighter in a few months, I'll just take them to a real upholstery shop to see what they can do.
I've decided to have all of the plastics and headliner covered in suede, so maybe whichever shop I choose to handle that task might be able to do something with the seats as well. We'll see...

Re: Katzkin Leather Seat Covers Installed
Those rear lower seat covers look odd to me ? The way the center part comes over the front, it looks like its to far? I'll take a pic of mine to show what I mean. I wouldn't think the TTAs are diff than regular gray leather stuff.
See how the seam goes all the way around infront and its strait all the way around? Also the stiching is a bit different there and on the rear headrest area than the factory did.
Other than those few things, they look nice.

you may think it's nothing now, but I think you may have payed for correct covers? if I was you I would find new foam and have your seats redone for free! a half way decent shop would have called and told you that your seat foam is going to pose an issue for fit, and looks.

Didn't even have to make the thread over on the Turbo TA forum. I went over to Hawks Third Generation's site and looked at their file photos for the Katzkin kit. Sure enough, their rear bottom cushions are cut just like mine.

Don't get me wrong,
they do look good, probably a 1000x better than what they replaced.
