Window motor replacement
So today I decided to replace the window motors in my gta with the drilling method I've used on my previous 4th gen cars that worked so well.
So I drilled the 3 holes and then drilled out the three rivets in about 10 mins. Popped the motor out and this is when the aggravation set in. I spent a really long time trying to get the motor lined and started. I remembered it being easier on my 4th gen. So I messed around with it for a while with no luck. So I pulled it back out to take another look at it. Here is the interesting part and a heads up anybody using aftermarket window motors for a 3rd gen.
Dorman motors are wrong! The 4th gen part number yields a motor that looks identical to the oe delco one installed in a 3rd gen fbody with on very big difference. The gear is larger. So it's impossible for it to work. I also had the opportunity to look at the dorman 3rd gen part number as well. The gear is right but the body is different. None of the holes line up to install it back in the regulator.
Long story short stay away from the dorman ones because they seem to be all mixed up about what these cars actually have installed in them. If dorman is your only option get their 4th gen fbody part numbered motor and then swap the gear off your old motor on to it and you'll be good to go.
I wanted to post this so if anybody else runs into this there is an answer. Autozone carries the dorman motors now.

Re: Window motor replacement
I did both doors on mine two weeks ago. I bought new motors (not reman) from NAPA not too bad a job but, found that when I had the car repainted a couple of years ago they screwed up my door panels and now they need to be repaired where the top trim mates to the fiber panel. Oh well more stuff for another day.
