need a GM part number for speed nuts

Hey Guys,

So, I pulled the door panel off of the inside of the door of my 91. I need the replacement speed nuts that attack the cardboard door panel to the plastic molding on top.

The nuts I need are pictured here

http://www.1aauto.com/1A/Weatherstri...SS00097/329666

in the second picture.

I bought similar nuts at Lowe's, but although the hole in the center of the nut is the right size, the lip around the nut isn't wide enough.

I tried contacting 1Aauto, but they don't sell the nuts individually. I guess I'll need to purchase them through GM.

Thanks in advance for your help!
Bill

I'm 99.99% sure that GM doesn't sell those individually either. There are other fastener companies that do have them. A GM dealer or body shop may have those but they didn't buy them from GM.

Did you check the Help section or whatever it's called at your local parts store? The area with all the oddball parts in the little cardboard hangers? The stores by me have all kinds of door handles, window cranks, radio ***** and stuff. Sorry, not sure how else to describe that aisle.

Thanks for the suggestings guys. I checked Autozone, Napa, O'Reilleys, Lowe's, and Advance. Most of them have speed nuts, but they dont have the right washer size.

I think the GM part number is 1680050. It's been discontinued. Most websites dont' seem to stock it. I've sent out a few emails in search of the part. Wish me luck.

How come every time I take something apart, some screw, washer, nut, etc. disappears or some plastic tabs snap off, and I get set back two weeks waiting for a replacement?

Welcome to the wonderful world of working on older cars

Seriously though, good luck with the search, and if you do find a source for them, be sure to post a link. I'm sure you're not the only member here who needs some replacements.

Re: need a GM part number for speed nuts

Your GM part # is correct for the speed nuts. I found this place that carries them.

They sell them in a pack of 100 but they are really cheap. Guess you would have to call them or send them an email to see about buying them.

Jermdm, thanks for finding this. I already emailed car part. According to their website, they only sell to stores/distributors. I asked them to point me towards a store that will sell me nuts.
