hey guys I was at a local car show today and was talking to a friend of mine that is a mustang freak and we got to taking about recaro seats, he told me that a company called TMI was making reproduction foam. as you may or may not know recaro seats in the 79 to 82 mustangs are the same identical recaro seats used in the 81 to 84 recaro trans ams. the only difference is the upholstery covers and the mustangs didn't have the bracket for the seat belt. I have a set of mustang recaros I have been wanting to put in my gta and just bought a 81 trans am pace car with recaro interior. here is the link to TMI and NPD that also has the foam there is a big price difference between tmi and npd I am going to call npd and see if its the same.

just talked to NPD and it is the same part number, I am ordering mine as we speak. I hope this helps us recaro seat guys in restoring our seats.

Ha yeah, now we just need correct seat covers to go on top of them! Wonder how long that's gonna take...

At least the foam is available though. Better than nothing I suppose.

 

It took me a long time to get the correct material. Unfortunately, the one guy who knows how to recover a Recaro closed up shop.

 

I just ordered my foam piece. I'll probably take the seat to a local interior shop for recovering. The original pattern with the trans am logo is gone. I just want a good durable fabric. Too bad Katzkin doesn't make a cover.

 

Bumping this to see if anyone has tried the foam or the seat covers offered below and if so how was the fit for 81 to 84 seats.

Thanks for posting this link. I have some Shelby Recaros from another car that is not a Mustang and need new bolsters. Hoping these will work!
