Stupid trunk latch..

My 89' RS has an electronic latch for the trunk that doesn't work.. I'm guessing it's too seal the trunk water tight? Anyway, i've torn it apart and found that it's a huge unit.. is there any way I can swap that for a regular trunk latch, that will work just fine or does autozone sell these electric trunk motors? I've found one for 83.99 but it seems a little small for that huge mass of wires and junk thats there.

I think the bracket welded to the body is different but not 100% sure. Just put your electric hatch motor all the way down and use it like a non power one. Thats if it doesnt work. Its adjustable somewhat on the 3 bolts that hold it in

I've tried that, but it's got way too much play in it. The eletric to it works just fine the motors shot, so I may just put a new motor in it.. I was just thinking I could go back a few years and get a regular one.

Re: Stupid trunk latch..

I might have a motor kicking around that works or a spare hatch pull down motor if you just want to swap it out

Re: Stupid trunk latch..

I feel y'all's pain. I've gone through 3 of these things. I honestly hate them. But luckily this third one is working perfect.
I looked at trying to switch to manual latch or whatever and read the latch is applied to the body different. So I just stuck with the electric. Sorry you're having the problem man.
