Tips for adding interior lighting and doing a custom headliner.
Tips for adding interior lighting and doing a custom headliner.
I have an 86 firebird T-tops that has a destroyed headliner. I was hoping to avoid paying the $200-$300 for a new one and was wondering if there was a practical way to make one myself for less than $200-$300.
Second question: I was hoping for some tips on improving the overhead lamp as it is kinda dim. Also, the headlights are also kinda dim so if anyone has a quick fix for making them brighter while still keeping the feel of the cars. I don't really want to put those super bright blue lights that really wouldn't go with the cars feel.

I actually just reinstalled my headliner finally this weekend after 2 years. I fiberglassed it myself. cost me about $30 to do it plus I had a friend put new fabric on it. came out great. As for your interior dome light try changing the bulb to an LED. Superbrightleds.com has a whole variety to choose from. As for headlights I recently ordered new housings and bulbs from http://www.tlg-auto.com/ . they also have a great variety. I sent them an email with my vehicle info and helped me choose the right set.

Re: Tips for adding interior lighting and doing a custom headliner.
I've got a 91 bird, hard top.
My cloth headliner is starting to sag. I wanted to have it recovered in vinyl, but the local upholstery shop advised against it. Apparently, vinyl doesn't hide imperfections and stretch as well as the cloth. Also, it weighs more, so it's more likely to sag.
I don't know how practical/possible it is, but I wouldn't mind having my headliner fiberglassed, sanded then painted black (so it looks like ABS plastic). This way, you never have to worry about it sagging again. Plus, you never bother touching the headliner, so you don't need to worry about it feeling soft!
