Rear shade pics

I'm adding a rear hatch roll up shade in my 88 Firebird. I have all the parts. I would like to see some pics of one in a car to get an idea of what it should look like when completed. I've found installation instructions just can't seem to find any in car pics. Any tips for install are appreciated. Thanks

Re: Rear shade pics

Those are fantastic thanks.does the shade lift out of the plastic mounts? If you get a chance could you take a pic of the mounts without the shade? Also a pic of the shade attached at the hatch with it's handle into the trim pice on the hatch? Thanks again, this helps alot.

Re: Rear shade pics

Does your plastics have the retainer for the roller or are you adding them?

There were 2 materials they were made of
Vinyl
Canvas

Re: Rear shade pics

I have the black plastic retainers my car did not come with the roller so I will have to remove the plastics and cut out the holes. From what I understand they should have the outline for the cutout n the inside of them.

Re: Rear shade pics

You possibly may have to fab the body mounts.
Unless they are already there by some odd chance.

If you can PM me a phone # that can recieve pics or an email addy I can send pics of body mounts tomorrow night around 8 central time.

Re: Rear shade pics

Ok sounds good. I have the body mounts out of another car. If you have pics of them in car that would be nice.

Re: Rear shade pics

I'll take the pics you requested when it's daylight out. As for how they attach to the underside of the hatch, it's a mount in the trim piece. My trim piece was cracked so I got a replacement but it didn't have the mount. I moved my mount over and melted the groves in it for the shade catch. My trim piece isn't exactly factory but it's pretty close. I used screws on mine instead of rivets also.

Re: Rear shade pics

Yes I have the trim piece with the holes in it. I was curious to see how the handle secured to the piece. I know it slips into the two T shaped slots on the hatch trim. A picture is worth a thousand words. Thanks again.

Re: Rear shade pics

Directly under the black plastic mount is the metal body mount. Correct? I know it is a lot to ask but if you could remove the black plastic piece and send a pic that would be awesome! Sorry to be a pain in the neck.

If I remember correctly, if your car did not come with a cargo shade then you will not have the metal pieces behind the body panels to mount the shade mounts to and its a big PITA to put the metal brackets in. I put a cargo shade in my non-cargo shade car and I just screwed the shade mounts directly to the body panels, it doesn't give the clean recessed look but it is still functional and doesn't look half bad. IMO if you didn't know what you were looking at you couldn't tell they were supposed to be recessed.

Re: Rear shade pics

I finished mine this morning. I did add the metal brackets. Wasn't bad at all. Got them from a donor car. Used self tapping screws to mount them. My original panels had the punch out on the back side for the black plastic mounts. Cut them out with a razor knife. Then quasi put the trim panels back in place and marked center of the cutout on the inner body with a sharpie. Pulled the quasi placed trim back out. Put the metal mounts where my center marks were. Installed the trim panels and then screwed the black plastic shade mounts to the metal mounts under the panel. Installed the shade and viola! Works great. I also got the trim piece for the hatch with the cutouts for the shade handle from the same donor car I got the metal mounts from.
