Recarpeting Interior Panels 82' T/A

I Had to rip out the nasty 32 year old carpeting from the T/A and I needed to match it to my new carpet anyways. I bought the carpeting, but i'm now a little purplexed on how to measure it and fit it for those molded curved back panels on the sides. I had kept the original carpet, tried tracing it and cutting it out, but its just not right. I'm not sure how to account for the curves....

Any tips from people who have done this with success i'd love to hear. Thanks!

Anyone? Someone on another forum told me to get a heat gun and mold the carpeting, but that really didn't help me....

Is there a difference between the thickness of the old carpet compared to the new?

No, I'd say its about the same. The original did have some sort of a molded foam pad that the carpet was overlaid.....

tack it with a little glue in the center, then lay it from the center out to each side, then trim ... if you are having trouble getting it to go down in the pans, try some sandbags ... heat gun may help

I have been told that using a heat gun is the way to go.

Why don't you just get a set of new panel carpet.

This is the way to go in my opinion. I just bought a full set for my Bose optioned IROC. Denny even cut the kick panel pieces larger to accommodate the larger speakers. Total it cost me $108 shipped and included the console, kick panels, cargo cover, and three section rear cargo area. Well worth the money.

Great Idea- Unfortunately my carpet isn't a stock color, its a custom color......but its worth a shot. I could always buy the carpet and have it shipped to them to cut and mold if they are willing to do it. I have 7769 Saddle/Biscuit From OC Auto Carpets
