Fabric / Carpet (Spray) Paint !!
Well, I purchased some spray paint for fabric & Carpet. After hearing mixed reviews elsewhere and not digging to much up here I figured I would give it a go and post my experience with it.
In about an hour I am lugging the gray carpeted sub enclose I purchased out into my yard and painting it. I am going to use SEM Color Coat, that's the brand i purchased. I believe the cans were around 12-14$ a piece.
Stay tuned for pics and if it works I can provide link of where I purchased from if anyone cares!

Re: Fabric / Carpet (Spray) Paint !!
OK - It went better than expected. I didn't take any before pics, but just imagine gray carpet instead of black.
I could see some issues if trying to go from a dark color to dark, I used about half the can and got down 2 coats, and I am letting it dry before doing 2 more coats and it should be completely covered.
Pictures in next post

Re: Fabric / Carpet (Spray) Paint !!
Believe it or not, that's not the gray carpet showing through, it's really the lighting outside. It looks pretty good in person.
I wouldn't do my whole carpet or interior with this, but it would be good if you had faded carpet, or need to cover a small piece like me from a light to dark color.

Re: Fabric / Carpet (Spray) Paint !!
Does it still "feel" like carpet? Meaning it's not all stuck together or whatever paint usually does to carpet is it?

Re: Fabric / Carpet (Spray) Paint !!
I would imagine this would do the trick just right on nice carpet. Like I said, I wouldn't change a whole interior with it, just little pieces like this.
Also, this would be GREAT if you had faded original black carpet. Which I do, I purchased some used carpet for my cargo area, it's lightly faded, I am going to touch it up with this.
I will take before and after pictures, probably tonight or at latest Saturday night.

Re: Fabric / Carpet (Spray) Paint !!
Here are links to the following which I purchased from Amazon:
I used the whole can and got about 4 coats down on that sub box carpet and it was just enough. I am going to use 2 cans I think to touch up my cargo carpet, may only take one, we will see. It's not faded that bad.

Never thought to try it on carpet though.

I am also re-painting the plastics in my interior. Some of my interior plastics had carpet on them, back hatch piece, kick panels, I used this stuff and it made the old gray carpet look brand new and black!!

Re: Fabric / Carpet (Spray) Paint !!
I couldn't be more happier with the result, the pictures have a lot of glare/gloss to them but in person they look fantastic.
I used PlstiKote plastic paint for plastics obviously
and then I used the SEM Carpet paint

Re: Fabric / Carpet (Spray) Paint !!
Like I said, I would use it on faded carpet, but not to change the whole color of the carpet IE Gray to Black, it would be a PINA. However, for small things like my carpeted panels and sub box, I couldn't be any happier.

Re: Fabric / Carpet (Spray) Paint !!
Well ill be the brave soul to attempt a whole carpet job, my carpet has all kinds of rust and grease marks on it from a few owners back treating it like crap. Worst thing happens is it turns out bad and I replace the carpet, best case it turns out great for less than a carpet.

Re: Fabric / Carpet (Spray) Paint !!
There are a few tricks to getting the paint/dye to last though. First degrease all of the plastic parts and handle them with rubber gloves afterwards until coated. Use an adhesion promoter, found wherever you can find the paint/dye, before your first color coat. If you skip those two steps there is a good chance the paint/dye will just peel off in a short amount of time.
If you're doing carpet then clean it really really well before painting/dyeing it. You won't need any adhesion promoter for the carpet.

Re: Fabric / Carpet (Spray) Paint !!
Then you should be good, I'd say 4-5 cans for the passenger carpet and 2 for the cargo carpet. Make it an even 8 to be save lol, the paint is only like $12 a can. Going from Grey to black will hide a lot of the stains.
Let us know how it turned out. Like I said, on the smaller carpets it turned out great for me.

I didn't use the dye on the plastics, I used paint for plastics and I did prep it and clean it before paint.

I've used it too, but just on the carpet on the back of the rear seat. Went from gray to black. It worked well, but I brushed out the stiffness from the dye/paint with a carpet brush after it dried to get back the fluff.

Re: Fabric / Carpet (Spray) Paint !!
I'm only going to be painting the carpet and my new center console, and radio pod if I can't find a black one. I've got a 4th Gen firebird center console to install. Just gotta get a 3rd Gen radio pod. I'm going to do the extra work and move the factory shifter to line up with the 4th Gen auto shift plate as well.
I'll be replacing the interior lives with factory black as I find them.

Re: Fabric / Carpet (Spray) Paint !!
Another great product I came across is "rubnrestore". If you have leather or vinyl seats that need touched up or completely dyed this stuff is great. I put a set of 2001 Camaro SS 4th gen "ebony" leather seats in my 91. The ebony is more like a very dark gray rather than a true black. The dark gray ebony didn't mesh well with my original tan interior. You just rub in on the leather/vinyl with a damp sponge, let it dry and re-coat if necessary then top coat with a clear that rubnrestore sells also. (darkens up the final coat and adds a gloss protective coat)

they had some scuff wear marks on the side bolsters. That stuff just made it disappear. Real happy with the product. Would use it again in a heartbeat.

Re: Fabric / Carpet (Spray) Paint !!
The SEM Spray paint I used came out soft, carpet feels good. Didn't need to do anything. I also stayed about 1 foot back and did light coats. Would put a light coat down, let it dry, repeat. All in all I put about 6 coats on.

I always found it dumb that the dash is black no matter what the rest of the interior looks like. Made the car always feel like the interior had been replaced already.
