Easier horn button?

I recently have needed to use my horn in my 91 camaro rs and have found that by the time i finally get it to beep traffic has no idea what im beeping at. Anyone do any mods to get help with the hard to push horn buttons on the steering wheels with airbags?

Thanks

Just push harder, you won't set the airbag off. My 2000 RamAir is the same; gotta hit it hard.

The plastic part of the button under the fabric may be all cracked to hell. I know they were pretty much disintegrated in my 91.

Re: Easier horn button?

Yep, the hard plastic that the outer cover of the airbag wraps around seems to warp in the way of the button. I couldn't find a decent condition third Gen bag so I swapped in a 4th Gen wheel. Nice and easy now. I'll try to get a pic of the back side of the old bag to show what I'm talking about.

If you are comfortable with removing a bag you can trim some plastic up on the back side to make the buttons work good again. But you have to be very slow and careful because part of the bag is exposed and right next to what needs trimming.

Re: Easier horn button?

Hi this might not help but I recently bought a 87 firebird as my first car. And the previous owner rigged the horn to a button mounted next to the light switch. It works quite well and it is easy to use
