89 Camaro door lock won't turn

In my 1989 Iroc, the passenger door lock refuses to turn. The automatic locks do work but neither those, the key, or the manual switch inside the car will lock the door. Its like the lock is frozen. Please Help!

Spray some WD40 in the key hole and try moving it without breaking the key.

If I read it correctly, I dunno if that will help. Sounds like he can press the power lock, and it "locks" but the door doesn't lock. Is that correct ?

I'd guess the lock has been changed or the whole door] so you now have the wrong key.

Re: 89 Camaro door lock won't turn

After a lot of research, I just decided to take the door panel off and see what was up. The previous owner had stuck some sort of VERY STICKY insulation on the lock rod and it was completly prohibiting it from moving at all. Power door locks are still super weak but im guessing that'll be another pain in the you know what. Haha Thanks for the tips!

Re: 89 Camaro door lock won't turn

Do NOT put WD40 in your door locks!!! Being the professional locksmith that I am, I can tell you from experience that that is a HORRIBLE idea! When WD40 drys, it becomes tacky. Then that causes every speck of dirt to stick to the inside over time only binding your lock worse! Take the lock out, take it to your local locksmith, and they can take it apart and service it. If they have the right springs and wafers for the lock, I would have them replaced as well to work with your existing key. We do this kind of thing all the time at my shop. It's very inexpensive if you can take the lock out and bring it in yourself. Also, use a Teflon based lubricant in the future in your locks. It works much better! I recommend a product called Tri-Flow. I use that stuff on a regular basis.
