First timer here. My dash was destroyed due to a previous owner making cheap modifications to it, so I went to the junkyard and bought a 1991 dash. The metal bracket that holds it in the car seems to be different. I can post pictures if need be. Anyone ever done this?

I have a 92 dash in my 84, if I remember right the lower brackets being different. Sorry don't have any pictures, but I had to fabricate something to secure it. I think I had to cut something also to make clearance of the new dash.

But it is possible to put them in there.

Note: the 92 dash has an electronic speedo. Your 82 dash was mechanical. So you'll need to buy the VSS unit that hooks to the tranny and swap the old one out.

I converted from an 87 to a 92 dash housing before. Yes,... the firewall brackets are different. The only way the newer style dash will mount properly is if you cut/drill the spot welds from the existing brackets and bolt/weld the proper brackets in place:

factory 87 Brackets:

90-92 Brackets bolted in place:

I also happen to have a pair of the 90-92 firewall brackets,.......... $25 + shipping would cover it. Send me a PM if you need them.
