Can this be done? I know you can buy the leather knock off boot for it. The manual shift plate is so expensive. The ones on eBay are $100 and they're garbage. I wouldn't put them in my car if they were free. The new one from Hawks is a lot as well, but at least it's new. I've been wondering if the auto one can be opened up.

Yes and no. I removed the pernundle easily enough. The shifter may bump the console in 1, 3 and 5, but usually doesn't if you are careful. However, when I attempted to CAREFULLY put a universal rubber boot on, I learned just how brittle the plastic is after thirty years and summarily cleaved it in twain. After the investment of time and money, I would've been much better off just buying a new one, which I did.

Thanks. I bit the bullet and ordered the one from Hawks
