Ok, the wife and I replaced the old nasty headliner with a new one this morning, it went pretty well and neither one of us are sporting band aids. Here is what the old one looked like........
Here is what the new one looked like in comparison......................
Here the car is with the old one removed................
While we had it apart, we rerouted the 'hide away' antenna from the roof line to the floor and grounded it under the back seat.
Here the new head liner is installed............
Here is where the new dome light/map light assembly will go, it's on order and should be here sometime this week.............
Here is a pic of the stock dome light/ map light assembly we ordered; after a lot of searching, we found it on Ebay for 17 bucks. Other sites wanted 30 bucks for just the lens.......
You'll like that light, I went from the plain Jane dome light to the one you're getting.
Big suggestion: Replace the bulbs with the phillips LED bulbs. Sure, they aren't cheap, however they work great, especially the map lights.
Thanks. Im looking to replace mine soon and trying to find pics of what it looks like with the tops off. I have heard the abs ones leave big gaps and some say it fits nice so I'm trying to find a brand that will fit my picky needs

I did notice a slight gap at the back of the t tops, but nothing that I considered a show stopper; especially considering what we took out of the car. It was horrible and the interior looks like a new car in comparison. The dome light assembly will be here this week and I'll get some pics posted up with the tops off when I install it later this week.
Is this a recovered liner or is it a complete unit?
I tried recovering mine and failed dismally as the stuff would not stretch enough around the inside corners.
What material did you use?
i have been looking for an antenna like that, hows the sound with it? Which model do you have.
The hide away antenna did help some, but not as much as I thought it would have; I picked up a couple more stations, but still no where near as many as my other rigs do.
I have my antenna shaved, I'm using one of those antennas that has "wings" to each side of it, double sided tape to the top of the windshield almost tucked behind the head liner. Can't see it from in or outside the car unless you really look and it picks up signals pretty good... I'm really used to satellite radio in the truck so it's hard to say exactly how good it works, but I'm happy for $18
I did this on my hardtop last week, but I bought headliner material from Hancock Fabrics. With my online coupon I got the material for $14 and used spray-on adhesive from Lowe's. I think my total was around $20. The hardest part was tearing the old liner out without destropying the molder piece underneath. I'll post some pics of the completed one later.

I certainly would have gone that route, had the old backing not been so deteriorated; it basically fell a part as we removed it from the car.
Ok, the new dome light/map light came in and I installed it today; it took a little more trimming on the mount hole in the headliner, as it's a lot bigger than the old one it was replacing. I also had a no power issue to the dome light that I traced to behind the dash where somebody had disconnected the wires; got it all lined out and it looks great.
Here are the pics I promised of the head liner with the tops off, there is a little bit of a gap, but nothing that will keep me awake at night.
