Arm rest / center counsel latch

Hello, not only a new guy to Camaro's but to Chevy in general. While I have never disliked Chevy I've always been a Ford pick up kind of guy. I've been in the market for a mid life crisis car for a while (never had a car let alone a sports car before). This past July I saw advertised in the paper a clean 1991 T top Camaro with 50K miles. Went after work found it to be a RS with a 305; was able to pick it up for $6,000 out the door and have been happy ever since. Anyways here is the question. The latch on the arm rest for the center counsel never did latch. It never bothered me until today when it not only decided to latch but won't unlatch either. I've tried to gently pry this way and that way, press in, and pull out. So far no luck. does any one have a "trick" to get in without breaking it open? Thanks!

Its possible you could unlatch it from the inside, but you would have to remove the shifter plate, reach in & release the lid.

I re- visited the problem with a fresh start. Was able to work it open with out damage. I took apart the arm rest and found that the flat spring had been broken in half and must have worked into the latch jamming it up. Are those springs available with out buying the whole arm rest pad?

Doubt it.Its something you'ld have to search for at a junkyard.Maybe someone here may have one from a damaged lid or ebay, maybe.

if you search around here you will find most people go to ace and find a small compressive coil spring that fits in there. thats on my list of things to do this winter
