Hatch Latch Motor Elimination?
Hatch Latch Motor Elimination?
My hatch latch motor is shot, it will not go down all the way and clicks. And it looks trashed and I don't want to spend money to fix it or replace it IF: Can I just get a latch from a non motorized Camaro for 15 bucks and mount that to the body. Are there holes there for a standard latch?

Different mount for the standard (non-pulldown) latch on 82-84 models, it has been done but you need to fab the mounting bracket.

Re: Hatch Latch Motor Elimination?
You dont have to buy anything. You can just pull the motor and stuff out and convert the existing latch to work without the motor. You just have to make sure the receiving latch is in the proper position to close the hatch. Clamp it in this position then drill a couple of holes and bolt it down. It has been awhile since I did this but I think once you pull off the plastic trim and stuff it was obvious what to do.I did this to my sons 88 TA works just fine and you cant tell once the plastic trim is put back on.
