Hatch release wiring issues

So I inherited a bit of a mess with the wiring for the electric release, but after sorting through the various plugs and broken wires, I got the latch to retract and pull the latch down. However, I could not get it to release. After releasing it with the key, I cannot get the latch to operate at all as it will not catch the hatch. Is it possible the switch itself is bad? I replaced the relay as well.

Any ideas would be appreciated.

TIA
Geoff

Re: Hatch release wiring issues

After further contemplation, I realized there appears to be some kind of sensor that needs to make the connection. The PO had installed a replacement hatch and left all the interior cladding off in preparation for paint, I assume.

When the hatch is closed, does that complete the circuit telling the release mechanism that it is ok to do its thing?

Re: Hatch release wiring issues

Ok, I have the hatch closing issues mostly figured out, but I still can't find the fuse and or relay for the remote release on the dash. I have no power to the switch so I have to assume it is one of those. I have looked under the dash in the passenger footwell as well as all the fuses in the fuse box.

Any body with experience on a '90 T/A or similar able to chime in?

TIA
Geoff

Re: Hatch release wiring issues

I have a harness from a 1989 IROC for hatch pull down and taillights that is undamaged. Let me know if you think that that would help.

Re: Hatch release wiring issues

Thanks for the offer, but I have power to the rear, I don't have power to the switch at the front. I am told they are on separate circuits.
