I just got back from scoring a set of seats from craigslist. The guy was a salesman at the local Chevrolet dealership. They came out of his 95 Camaro that he wrecked. They are in EXCELLENT shape. My deal is, I'm not sure if these are going to ghetto my car, or give it more of the hotrod look it already has going on. I couldnt pass up the deal either way. I gave a full $150 bucks for the complete set which I think it a flat out steal...all they really need is some minor cleaning. What do you guys think?

Color scheme looks a tad different. Seats look really good though. Probably would be more comfortable too. Are those the originals that are in there?

 

Thats the thing. The color scheme can be what I want to be just by changing seats and floor mats. The entire rest of the interior is solid black including new carpet and headliner. The current seats are a dark grey from a fourth gen, and I just bought some dark grey floor mats to tie it in and it works. The new seats would need a set of two tone grey and black floor mats to make it work....and it would look right, but my worry is the flames on the seats.....ghetto or hotrod? I just cant do ghetto..LOL

 

Actually hotrod and flames usually go well together. I like the seats personally and would change them and mats and walla different car lol. Now if u were to say talk about a rooster perch spoiler then yeah were getting into the realm of ghetto even riced out if u will. But the seats IMO would look sweet.

 

I think I may give it a whirl and see what it looks like. This is the car, I dont think it will look rice at all....maybe *******, but hey, Im from Tennessee

Sure ain't a no no word here in Texas lol. Car looks awesome no rice there at all. Black and gray seats and floor mats would go nicely I think.

Texas! Tennessee and Texas are the two best states in the union, and the only two that start with T. In fact, if I ever wind up divorced (probably over the car) Texas is where I'll hang my hat...****singing****

I come in here to check on my post and all thats here is a bunch of empty solo cups and a funny smell in the air.

IMO, the "camaro" script says ghetto, and the flames say hot rod. The best of both worlds, maybe? The price was definitely right though.

Also, a note on the 1997-02 seats that are currently in the car: they may have no tears, and they may be free from stains, but I wouldn't call them flawless if you're intending to sell them. They look to be fairly hard/dried out (note the wrinkling/stretching of the leather where the lower sides attach to the lower cushion). New leather doesn't look like that. The top of the rear seat in my '02 does though, thanks to the sun baking it through the rear hatch glass. Pretty common on anything older like that unless it's treated with leather preservative about every other week since new (which no one did). That's not to say that they're still in above average condition though.

 

I wouldn't say they're ghetto at all. I like them for the right build. They're period correct for the 90's mild custom look.

 

Truthfully I think they will be right at home in your car and not "Ghetto" at all.

You have a hotrod thing going on with the tach, shifter, shift ****, steering wheel, cowl hood. I think those 'new' seats will fit the build and look great.

Heck I could even see doing a 4 lick ghost flame up the cowl scoop to match the flames on new seats.

 

The way I see it the high back buckets offered in 3rd gens were not all that different looking then the 4th gen buckets, so they look right at home to me.

 

Thanks guys, especially for the compliments. Ive put together a few cars in my life (a few old Chevy trucks and a Camaro) but this car came to me as sort of a frankenstein looking car from the get go with the cowl hood and the 4th gen seats and a half a$$ed HEI conversion. Ive never been so wishy washy over which direction to go with a car. I think the hood has grown on me is the problem. I never liked them before. I literally have everything to put it back stock. It came with the car. Steering wheel, Original shifter, Original seats (need recovered), Three different guage clusters, Z28 wheels, and I even went and found an original hood. Now Im not even sure I want to go that route since everything actually works and in my opinion is done as tastefully as you can if you are going for this look. I actually dont think the car would be worth one dime more if put back original since I could sell it as having all the original parts. I think you guys are right. The seats ACTUALLY fit the build. I will give them a go in a day or two and post up some pics. Thanks for all of the replys!

 

Umm... no additional flames. I did however add a couple of well placed quality chromed metal emblems today though




And if anyone is wondering, that is a Chromed metal NOS Monte Carlo Trunk emblem Bowtie. Heavy little dude. Found that sucker on ebay!

As for the originality thing I really like to see stock cars that have been taken care of and look like they would have back in the 80's and 90's. That being said I also love the highly modified "Frankenstein" cars that have been put together with a lot of thought and care.

So in my world I need to have a Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde 3rd gen. My plan is to find a hard top camaro and turn it into an IROC race car replica once my '87 iroc is finished being put back to stock.

I need that super loud, stripped down animal that will annoy my neighbors while still having the option to go for a Sunday ride without having to worry about getting pulled over for excessive noise.

 

You and I are on the same page. I LOVE the stock look. Just visited your garage. That 87 has ALLOT of potential. I like the the vortec TPI combo too. I bet that is one torque monster....and probably well improved in the upper rpm's with those heads?

 

Actually the car has never ran in the three years I've owned it Lol! It was a barn find and didn't have an engine when I found it. It had sat in a barn for some time and the mice ate the engine harness to the point of it not being salvageable. I was in the process of doing an LS swap but the costs were getting too high so I switched to the vortec. I'm hoping to have it running in the next few months, but life seems to like to throw me curve ***** to who knows!
