PMD seat issue
PMD seat issue
So I was reupholstering my driver's side PMD seat and finished bolting up everything when I noticed a couple of problems. Where the top meets the bottom, there seems to be a gap on the left that doesn't appear to be on the right. Also the pleats seem to be off. I left the old upholstery on the passenger side for reference and everything seems to be bolted back up okay but it just looks off. Anyone got a clue what's going on here?

Re: PMD seat issue
Are you sure you bolted the back to the bottom correctly ? It looks as if the entire back is offset to the right.
Re: PMD seat issue
I was told that these only bolt up one way but I'm not so sure. That I seem to remember, when the old upholstery was on this seat it looked fine but now that I have the new upholstery on the foam seems to be packed higher and compressed more on the left than before. I'm thinking I'm going to have to mod it a little bit. I'm thinking either a really fat person had these seats and twisted the metal or the car was in some sort of accident, I really have no clue at this point. The seat spring underneath was broken in half so I had to engineer my own support since I can't find replacement 82-92 firebird seat grids.

Re: PMD seat issue
I'm in midst of fabbing my own seat upholstery, and there's been
a couple of hard-knock lessons that might be of help. These are 'Bird
seats, but the overall construction is very similar.
1) The bottom covers are more self-centering, since all sides are
secured independently to the frame.
2) The back covers, which slip over the seat bun, would be move likely to
rotate slightly, which would cause the effect shown. Trying to massage
the cover over slightly, would be a cheap experiment.
3) A worn out foam bun, can definitely cause symmetry problems.
I have a variety of seat parts, including some new foam buns. However,
they're at home in Texas, and I won't be back home until last week in
March. If you're interested, PM with some more detail, and pics.
Good luck.

Re: PMD seat issue
Thank you guys for your help. I pretty much just sort of tugged and pulled the upholstery around a bit and applied hog rings to add tension in certain spots and while it isn't perfect it's a lot better than it was. Thank you for your help!
Re: PMD seat issue
While I'm thinking about it and it's on my mind, what GM mounting tabs do I need to reattach the plastic back on my seats? I shattered my old 30+ year old tabs when I pulled the seat backs off to reupholster them. Would these do?
