Replacement option for auto dimming rear view mirror

I have an auto dimming factory rear view mirror that just makes noise but doesn't shift. Would those new style ones on ebay work? They actually dim as opposed to shifting the glass. I imagine all the magic is handled by the mirror itself and would just require a power supply that's obviously already there.
