Convert auto shift plate to stick

Howdy y'all. Recently I picked up a formula bird with a beautiful, nearly perfect interior. The shift plate is flawless, lettering nice, ash tray lid works perfectly..however, its an auto car, and will be getting a stick shift treatment down the road. Finding a good 5 speed shift plate is $$$, so I thought about finding a way to convert this to a 5 speed plate. Looks like if I remove the shift boot, as well as the prndl indicator, it would be large enough to accommodate a shifter?
Wondering if anyone has done this before I wreck a nice shift plate.

Buy the manual one. Sell the auto one. Don't damage a nice one that's asinine.

In case you were not aware, Hawks is now selling a reproduction 5-speed plate for $149. This may or may not be in your price range, but figured it would be worth mentioning. http://www.hawksmotorsports.com/85-9...-reproduction/

Just buy the the reproduction and sell your auto one. Auto plates in good shape are hard to come by because they used to junk them (base cars had a bunch of them.. had is the key word).
